Rapid Overheating - stuck thermostat

Rapid overheating is often caused by a thermostat stuck closed. The symptoms are first a normal temp and then on next start-up the vehicle overheats. It is EZ/PZ to check and confirm. Pop the hood and hold your hand close to the motor and to the radiator. If the radiator is "cool" or even cold compared to the motor, then your thermostat is stuck closed.
Do not drive the car further as what will likely happen is the motor will continue to overheat raising coolant pressure, which pressure will eventually seek relief by "blowing" a head gasket.
Contrasted, radiator failure is usually much more gradual. It usually occurs in high mileage cars and is evidenced in a gradual increase in coolant temp over weeks.
