Rear driver side regulator

I have a bad regulator on the 2000 XKR I just purchased. Reading about removal/replacement it seems like a pita. I can hear the motor run so I think the cable is off.
Question is, am I further ahead to install a used unit, or buy the cables and pulley, install them and beef up my regulator?
Just wondering what the general consensus is out there?
