Default Rear End Handling Issues ?

Hi Everyone , i'm hoping someone can assist with the concerns i have with my 2006 XK150 ... it's just the standard base model 4.2 auto and with the 20 inch wheels and i can't explain how much i love this car , it's an amazing beautiful piece of machinery . The problem i'm having is in the rear end of the car and it appears to happen more on a decline and in dry or wet weather that the rear end feels like its sliding out ... it actually feels like your losing control of the car and it actually feels scary unsafe ... has anyone else experienced this problem ? Any help would be greatly appreciated ... Thank you Ray

I have not, mine is very well planted. Suggest you get it on a lift and look for loose or worn suspension pieces. Of course if you have dunlap tires on it that is typical, slip sliding (from my experience)

Your car is old. Bushes and such wear out with just age. There are threads in this forum with ways to repair this. Also tires affect handling, of course.

anti sway bar bushes are overlooked, as are worn dampeners.
Brand of tire does matter, but so does the model.
Not to mention your management of speed and throttle control. And brake before the corner, not in it.
Cheers

I had the rear control arms and bushings replaced and it made a world of difference in the feel of the rear end.

Also i would advise to check tire pressue, and remember that pressue of front and rear tyres is different.

@Damirich , Only as you bring it up. For my summer setup, I drop the pressure in the front and rear by 5%. It feels better in the corners… (pilot sport 4 s).
Spring and fall (pilot sport AS4) Im running -5 % in the rear. -10 % in the front.
Winter (yes you read that right),…. well, there’s some history here. I like the blizzaks on ice, the michelins on snow… historically was -10% all around. But because of all you guys, I’m going to try the Vredesteins this year.

Each time I get new rubber, its about 2 weeks of trial and error to get it feeling right, again.

@rjkxk150 , once you have the suspension and alignment done, check out the differences in the rear end by altering the pressures back there. Do Not overinflate! The handling and grip will suck…. she will bounce like crazy.
But do try a spirited drive at rated, then -5%, then -10%. (all cold of course). The differences are quite pronounced.

To me that sounds like the rear arms and silent blocks (is it what you all call bushings?) needs to be replaced.
Nothing exceptionnal with this mileage @rjkxk150 .
I do feel the same on mine too and plan to have it done next month.
