Default Relevant conversation with xk owner

A mile or so from my home...on my way to an appt today, I noticed a black 2010 XKR convertible parked near me. I always check out any XK. I noticed the owner was still inside the car.. As she was getting out, I asked how she liked her car and told her I had the same car (so not to scare her into thinking I was a deviant). She told me she loved it and that it was purchased with 8,000 miles but now had well over 100,000 miles. The car did look shabby with the the hood inlet missing and many body flaws. My only question to her was have you had any problems and did you ever replace the water pump? She couldn't talk much as she was going to an appt but said she had a number of electrical issues but never replaced the water pump. Before walking away she turned around and said to me....."oh.......on the way here, I did notice that the low coolant light care on". I told her briefly as she was in a rush.....have it checked out. I wonder if I'll be seeing that car on the road again.......I'm sure she doesn't have a clue.

I am positive that the drivers gender had nothing to do with the state of the car nor their ignorance as to the meaning of a low coolant message?

I'm sure if a guy was driving he too might not have a clue. Not every Jaguar owner is a car enthusiast and just drives their car until something goes wrong.

I just assumed after being on this forum for so long that the analogy for the 'low coolant light" coming on in the XK dash might be equivalent to the "Blue Screen of Death" on most computers! Never a good thing.

A woman owned mine before me and a gay guy too if all hairdressers are gay. Car has more fingernail scratches and bag marks on the roof than a NYC cab. It was also in sh.t state when I got it so...

Mine was purchased and owned by a woman exec. for Wells Fargo as her personal car. She traded it in at 6,666 miles for a new F-Type. The car was immaculate and came with it's service history. It happened to be one of the dealers I had talked with about finding an XKR convert. They called me and the rest was history.

The setting the purse on the car is so dumb. I never do that with mine because it's a great way to forget your purse and drive off. It's also, as you mentioned, TERRIBLE for the paint. I know so many people my age (31) and younger who know literally nothing about cars. Like changing a tire isn't something they are capable of doing; even "tough guys" having no idea what the difference between a turbocharger and an alternator (MOAR POWAA!!!!).

Mechanical sympathy and respect for possessions seems to be more and more lost. The idea of constantly replacing things, either leased or just planned obsolescence, is ingrained. People regularly are financing cell phones. PEOPLE ARE LEASING OR MAKING PAYMENTS ON TELEPHONES. Hell, they even wait in line for when a new one comes out; waiting in line for a telephone like the Soviet Union. So many people are in the thinking of payments; prioritizing cash flow constantly above overall cost.

If you always think that you'll have a payment since your car and telephone need to be replaced with a new one every 2-3 years, you don't treat your stuff as well. You put purses on paint. You ignore obvious oh **** warning lights.

I just replaced the battery on my iPhone 7 ($45) and it's like a new phone! Many would've just bought the new phone instead. US cell phone market is so geared to financing phones that I don't think as many realize you can just buy a phone and be done with it. Then again, the newest phones aren't so cheap either.

iPhone 7, wazzat?
I replaced the battery a few months ago in my iPhone 5s. Good as new, I’ll assume, since I bought it used on eBay a few years ago.

I have a LG Stylo 3. I bought it 2 months ago for $150 cash. It replaced a Samsung Galaxy S4 that I'd had for 4 years that wasn't able to get MS Outlook for work anymore. I sold it on ebay. I bought it for maybe $200 that long ago and got $60 for it.

I do all sorts of neat stuff on my cheap phones. I can do everything I need to and want to do. For work, I run apps for Outlook, Azure Portal, Office365 Portal, SQL Server, IBM 5250 Terminal Emulator and more. I'd consider myself as a power user being a lead web developer for a company. I don't play any games on my phone though, with my most intense non-work stuff being Youtube, VLC playing media and texting.

Me, I make calls and do some texting. Once in awhile read email. Check my calendar and so on. Oh, and I use all the Home Automation Apps all the time. Run the vacuums, run the lawn irrigation, look at security cameras and doorbell, can check status of the Range and Refrigerator, even look inside the fridge to see what I need to buy. Can't start the dishwasher though, mine's too old.

With that mileage, I'm sure you got one helluva deal, but didn't you have any concerns about making a deal with the dev ... uh, seller?

Flip phone? Picture with a phone? Did you take an LSD? You need to get with the times. Try one of these and just say no to drugs.

Damn hippies anyway....
