So I've been searching for ANY solid lug nuts for my 2001 XJR. Cant find anywhere. Any ideas? I've even contacted machine shops but no offers. Apparently I have 1/2 20
. Not sure what that EXACTLY refers to but that's what will fit. I've even contacted machine shops and asked if they could, maybe, modify something or make them but no dice. Sure, I get it, the liability. Noe I'm thinking, oh well, just change out the studs?
IDK. Any thoughts or ideas?

Do 2001 XJRs use the same lugs and studs as the 2006-2015 XKs? If so, all the info is in this thread. If not, the XJR forum may help you more.

I've had some luck with this store on Ebay. Solid lug nuts at a reasonable price. Not sure if the 2001 is mag seat, so pay attention to the mating surface when you buy them. Also make sure you have the correct nut size. I ordered for my 08 XKR incorrectly and have 13/16" vs 3/4" (or metric equivalents <21 vs 19>
This means I cannot use the factory lug wrench.

I'd receommend swapping out the OEM lug nuts and using anti seize...and as always torque your nuts.

Here is what might happen if you dont:

I am sure you DON’T have 1/2-20 ( 1/2” diameter - 20 threads per inch) lug nuts. They will be a metric size. Probably 19 mm, but not sure. Go to a hardware store and see what size bolt threads into your lug nuts.

Change the studs?? What on earth are you doing that make the factory lug nuts so "awful?" They're just nuts mate, if someone is ripping the tops off them then stop letting them work on your car... simple.

Instead of going through all the foolishness of changing the studs for no real reason other than internet-induced anxiety, why not just buy a box of a few hundred standard lug nuts and replace them with new ones once every week/month/year or whatever, so you know they're always new?

Stock ones are 2 piece, seem my pic in earlier post. Over time, they separate and the cap starts to spin on the steel part of the nut. When this happens they are a b*tch to get off. I had to rip the cap part off on nut just to get at the inner part to get the nut off. Aftermarket ones (most) are solid steel, so no cap to rotate. I have had this happen to several cars. The stock onoes will distort if there is any resistence between inner nut and stud. It does not take too much.

So $20 and 2 1/2 minutes per wheel and you are done. You dont even need to lift the vehicle. Remove old nut, replace with a new loaded with anti seize, repeat for rest of the nuts on the wheel, then move to next wheel. And remember, always torque your nuts.

I was replying to someone saying they can't find replacement lug nuts and so therefore they were considering swapping their studs... changing studs because they've read on the internet that two piece nuts sometimes fail is lunacy.

If you can swap all four corners' studs in 20 minutes, I will fly you to Australia to work in my workshop.

No lifting of vehicle, Milwaukee electric impact for removal and reinstall nuts. You must charge by the hour.
I prefer to fly Qantas.

The guy I was talking to is thinking about replacing the STUDS, not the nuts. If you can replace 20 STUDS in 20 minutes without removing the wheels then you know something I don't.

I prefer to read posts before replying to them.

I have replaced all of my lug nuts with DP Driven Products solid wheel nuts. They come in a pack of 20 for $96. Excellent product and never failed, rounded or stripped and I live in New Hampshire where corrosion is a natural occurrence for all automotive activities, unfortunately.

Read it perfectly, responding to the comment about the notion that there is something wrong with the way the nuts are being removed. You wrote:

As you can see, by other posts, these fail under normal use. Especially in corrosive environments. I never spoke to studs or removing those in under 20 minutes. Regardless, suggestions about reading habits or putting words in my mouth are one of the distractions in forums. Maybe just constructive comments to help the OP make some decisions. I have found providing experiences and solutions goes a long way and opinions may be less effective to a certain extent.

Bob, I am planning to replace my oversized solid nuts on my 08 XKR. If you can confirm (or any here) that they are the same thread as your Jag, Or just let me know and Ill check to see if the source has them.

Thank You ! I think they are different but don't know for sure. I appreciate all the comments and input from every one. I know people are surprised when I say my lug nuts are 1/2 X 20 but they really are and nobody has them in solid steel, no plastic caps. The plastic caps are damaged a bit on the sides But the main reason I want solid steel polished chrome is the plastic craps, I mean caps , do not polish very well at all. I thought maybe somebody could fab them or something?

Here you go - take your choice of what you like best. Just make sure you select the correct seat style for your wheels.
