Replacing 20" w/ 19" for Better Ride Comfort?
#41
19" wheels look really good. And to my eyes indistinguishable from the 20".
That said there arent too many choices in the 19 that look as good as the OP's 20" Nevis wheels. Which were one of the best, keeping in theme with aeronautics.
Those unfamiliar with Nevis wheels

1. RHR upper wishbone bush (squeaking)
2. centre heatshield (victim to a rough Spanish road)
3. passenger impact sensor (original design known to fail)
The most reliable Jaguar I've owned and there's been a lot in the past forty five years.
The 2014 is a 2015MY in British Racing Green. Obviously pampered by its one owner and maintained/sold by the same Jaguar dealer. Not a mark on it and drives beautifully but I'll know more when I have the chance to unleash it on the European roads in the Summer.
It's on 20 inch Kalmino but the ride quality is much better than my 2005 XK8 on 20 inch Sepang and as good as the 2007 XK on 19 inch Carelia.

On the 20" Kalminos wheels.
They are easier to bend. Watch the potholes.
The best mod I did on my Kalminos was the application of ceramic- 3 years ago and still going strong ($40 for all 4) and its been a breeze to keep clean. If done within a week, brake dust rinses off with simple hose pressure.
(then take the remaining ceramic and apply it to the track and underside of the hatch lid- it will allow water to runoff and not slowly drip down your back)

I'd read 14 somewhere was the magic number. I think that's why I'm stuck on classical, mostly baroque (parents) and Classic Rock from the 60's and 70's (self, older siblings).

True, but I think Ranchero50 is advocating for a larger tire diameter, regardless of the rim diameter, to better fill the wheel well, which would make the speedo reading slightly off, but not that much (unless you live in a speed trap area).

I Stayed w/ the 20" Nevis and replaced w/ Michelins PS / AS
Thought I'd close out my part of this thread: I kept the 20" wheels and went w/ a replacement set of Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 3+.
As anticipated, the ride and noise issues have mitigated considerably. Its not a Lexus, but the impact harshness and noise levels are now well within acceptable levels. Had the car been this comfortable when I bought it, I wouldn't have posted my concerns. So I'm satisfied with the results.
I even opted for the $7 nitrogen fill ;-)
Total cost, including taxes and fees, was $1160. By way of comparison, the same model tire in 17" on my 3 Series BMW was $750. Thx. gordo
