The 5.0 has an oil level sensor in the sump and gives an oil level reading on the dashboard so no dealer is required for this.

Thanks Richard,

But my car is 2009. It does not show such readings as usually it comes with 4.2L. Is that something can be installed or programmed to the car to read?

There won't be anything in the 4.2 instrumentation that can display the oil level in a 5.0 engine. It might be possible to mount a cheap gauge in the car which connects directly to the sender in the oil sump and modify the scale to display the resistance, or whatever it's outputting, as an oil level but I doubt whether there will be anything available off-the shelf.

You also might be able to replicate a dipstick by using a piece of suitable flexible wire or cable down the oil suck-out tube or by modifying the sump. If the wire comes out with oil on the end, then a little calibration after an oil change should give you a scale to work with.

The picture shows a 4.0 or 4.2, not 5.0.

Camshaft covers are not interchangeable to a 5.0 as a sure indication.
Someone who succeeds putting a Di 5.0 in succesfully would deserve some kind of prize..

Looking at the install quality..Hmm, I understand your feeling now.

Just find out the engine type to enable proper advice from the forum I guess.

Hang on, surely you can't fit a 4.2 supercharger, intakes, exhaust manifolds, coolant plumbing etc onto a 5.0 engine? in any case, the OP said the engine came out of a 2011 car. The 5.0 XJR was launched in 2013. What I can see in that picture looks like a 4.2.

Did Jaguar remove the dipstick on the 4.2 supercharged? It's present on our 4.2 N/A but I can't see it in that photo.

not sure, perhaps on XJ?
But hole in sump could be plugged..
or reason for irratic engine idle is caused by unmetered air from sump to pcv by missing dip stick tube..
omg...

When using a 4.2 SC from a Range Rover, the lower bedplate is blanked off since the dipstick goes directly into the sump. However, when using it as an engine replacement for an XKR, you need to swap the sumps, if the bedplate was never drilled out by your mechanic you will not have a dipstick.

Also, the early versions of the Range Rover S/C did not have VVTi and had different flowing injectors. From your photo, I can see the harness for the VVTi solenoid; however, I can't see whether it is plugged in or whether it is fitted with VVTi.

Are you able to confirm if VVTi is present and if the harness is plugged in?

So something is odd with your photo. The XJR 2008+ engine has the oil fill near the front of the valve cover. Prior to that, the oil fill was a bit further back toward the rear of the valve cover than it is on the XKR. In your picture, the oil fill looks to be in the standard XK position. So either the engine is not from an XJR, or the mechanic replaced the valve covers?

In any case, the dipstick for the oil should be toward the front of the engine, between the engine and the strut tower. In your picture, it would be hidden behind the silver tube running beside the strut. If you lean forward and look between the engine and strut tower. Here is a photo from my 4.2L showing the red handle of the dipstick.

Besides engine build or serial number, I guess a video of the running engine would help us all in attempts to try something in direction of a diagnose (who can find out NA or R, just by block number?)..
