I've not seen the Seat Heat/Cool or Steering heat shown on either this video or the last one.

It because they are not on the XF panel Rhys is replicating . However if Rhys can do this can the project be expanded to replicate the XK touchscreen features - that would be awesome.

Yep we'll be queuing up...and judging by his lack of an accent I'll not have a shipping delay!

Porting this to the X150 should not be a problem with a few tweaks. Adding or deleting options like heated steering wheel and cooled seat is just a matter of adding of a few software lines of code.

I hope he improves the look of the UI. Come on man, it's a Jaguar!
In the temp controls, nearly half the screen is used to show the temperature. The buttons are rather small. Watching his demo he's taking care to hit the right soft buttons. All buttons should be large on screens. Making them small makes them dangerous to use when driving. The soft buttons on the wife's Cadillac are an inch each. Each feature has a different emoji and color resulting in fewer seconds with your eyes on the screen.

But the guy's work is brilliant and I'm guessing he will continue to impress. I hope I can guinea pig it on the XK.

Right. In his thread, I think he acknowledged today that some, maybe those specific signals, are coming from MOST. Cambo also noted early on that not all functions are initiated via Canbus. He's looking at workarounds. Time will tell.

Update:

I would rather see the finished product replace the existing screen.

Yeah that's not his intent. He used the screen to replace the hard buttons below the screen, so essentially now 2 screens. By doing so, he's replicated all the buttons and also added the Android features to that touch screen. Cee Jay, it didn't dawn on me until after I posted that the seat heaters are touch screen only. Chalk that disconnect up to synapses failing to fire in my brain at the time.

Don't see the point, looks weird with 2 screens

So this entire thing is to add superfluous buttons and change hard buttons into soft buttons, which is to include basically a phone/tablet on a mount below the OEM screen that anyone can buy for $10.
Seems like a waste of possibilities with minor benefits. I certainly don't need MORE soft buttons. They are overdone as it is.
I thought this would have been something cool.
Oh well.

I'd not be judging so soon. So far it's a step forward. As he's generously putting the details and code online someone may take it further (or he may). It's not realistic to expect a full replacement for the existing screen etc in one jump and free!

Yea Rhys has done an impressive job in replicating the XF control panel with a touch screen. There is nothing out there that will do that for $10. The critical part of his work was hacking the canbus. Who else has shown they can do that and make the knowledge commonly available for all. While this mod is not directly applicable to the X150 its a step in the right direction to learning/hacking the X150 touchscreen which has some commonality with the XF. Wherever this goes just the learning's of the canbus communication will help when module availability dries up and old electronics start to misbehave.

The overall and immediate benefit for what he's done is allow access to his phone plan on screen I think. To that end he can use updated google maps or any maps he chooses, access any apps used on a regular basis (Spotify comes to mind as does Torque Pro), and in doing so on a larger screen without having to touch the phone. "Hey Google" should work with this when paired/hard connected to his phone. There's obvious replication of features. He can choose to use the phone on his new screen and never pair with the Jaguar, etc...
So there is some immediate benefit, just not what many on this forum are looking for? I presume most want what they have plus more on their current screen.

I look at this as version 1.0. This is a giant step towards replacing the main screen with a lot more modern and functional system.

I think the question is whether or not he looks at it as version 1.0 and whether he intends to replace the main screen.

I think on the XF forum he says it is his intention to replace the main screen. However, if he doesn't replace the main screen maybe someone else will come up with version 2.0.
