Sat Nav - may have located dirty rat
Hi,
My 2010 XKR was shipped to me from a dealer far, far away - arriving last month with a few problems that should not have been there. The principal has been excellent in resolving them, but I fear I may have uncovered a new issue..
The Sat Nav disc was missing when the car was delivered. the dealer has sent a replacement disc - Version 20AUS, 9NZ HDD. (Australia/New Zealand)
The unit will only give the message "Unable to read data Check if map DVD is correct". I haven't received an answer from Whereis Maps as yet, but I can't find any reason why the new disk should not be compatible.
I can only think that the car has defective Sat Nav DVD reader. Can anyone suggest what else might be the problem, or anything else that is worth checking? I've tried the 660 code, and the 'Yes' to load the software is disabled, so it does seem to be failing at the first hurdle of reading the disc.
Cheers,
Rob

The North American discs are made by Navteq. They have an Australian operation, here is a link to the website: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...68235269,d.cGU.
I would get in touch with them

The answer was incompetence
The disc sent by the dealer was for the XJ series.
Checking the Whereis.com.au website (by going through the ordering sequence) showed that the XJ disc has "HDD" on the disc. As this one contains both Aus and NZ, and the correct one has one or the other, I'm guessing that this means "High Density Disc" and so cannot be read.
Thanks to Roadbend in Perth for the suggestion - Whereis.com.au tech support still haven't responded after two days..

I replaced my Nav disc here in the USA with a West Coast version from what was in the DVD unit (East Coast). It took less than 10 minutes for the unit to install the new West Coast disc which I bought on eBay.
You might want to try eBay to see if there might be a seller of the Aussie/New Zealand disc.

If the one you have been sent is for the X350/X-Type/S-Type then it won't work. I tried the one from my X350 when I got my XKR but it didn't work so had to find one for the XF/XK.
If you do get the correct disk I will be interested to hear how you get on with it. My Japanese import 07 XKR had a UK nav unit retrofitted to it to make it compatible with New Zealand. Unfortunately it sees every side road, however small, as a junction, so is constantly saying "at the next junction go straight ahead". I had to turn voice off in the end and just watch the map.
I imported a UK nav unit for my wife's Subaru Outback and the XK disk has the same issue in that as well.
