Say, what's the deal with Red Calipers? Why do some of us have 'em?

Noticed that my first XKR (2010 in silver) did NOT have red calipers. But my newer XKR (2011 in Black) does indeed have red calipers. Is this an option? An upgrade? an owner mod?

Curious to konw,

On the previous model XKR, Jaguar used red calipers when they introduced Brembo brakes as an option. Later they changed them to silver when they badged Brembo as Jaguar R performance brakes. It was effectively the same brake and this was pure marketing.

Although the PO could have repainted them, chances are the change you've noticed between the 2010 and 2011 models is another example of marketing.

Actually, in the USA, Jaguar marketed that optional brake package as Alcon brakes, not Brembo, for the 2008 and 2009 (4.2L) XKRs. The rotors were manufacturered by Alcon and the calipers were manufactured by Brembo.

Front: 400mm crescent slotted rotors, six-piston calipers. Rear: 350mm crescent slotted rotors, four-piston calipers. The largest ever fitted to a production Jaguar. The "R" emblem is cast into the caliper.

My 2008 *XK* has red calipers but from what I can tell they are the standard rotors and calipers. I bought it used so it could be a previous owner mod. I like how it looks at least. They are peeling and need to be repainted though.

Red paint has been a factory option on the stock XKR calipers starting 2010. Currently $450 US

Has anyone here swapped their XK brakes for XKR brakes? I have two front R calipers from 2010, same as my car, and would like to get them on there after I find two rear.
