Thanks guys. I asked my Wife if it ever happened on the passenger side and she said yes a few times...it mostly happens to me at a bank drive in where I have to unclasp the belt to get my wallet etc. And the car in in drive with my foot on the brake, but when I release the brake it still stays locked...quirky indeed lol

This happens with several of my work colleagues cars - GMC truck, Saturn SUV, and Mercedes SUV.
Geeze, in my friends Saturn, once I pull the passenger seat belt out I have to make sure I pull it out enough or if I stop before there's enough clearance I have to let it go all the way back in before I can get it to move at all.

Nope. Seat belts work perfectly.
The only issue I can remember having with seat belts in any car I've owned is with my F250...sometimes the belt gets twisted through the buckle. I don't know how that happens. I just untwist it and go on.
I guess the same thing that eats my socks in the dryer twists the belt through the buckle...

RJC - what happens when you pull gently and slowly on the belt? Does it give you slack? If it doesn't I'd have it replaced under your warranty. Now even with mine if I pull it to fast it stops; but that's normal and is supposed to that. If it stops, I simply pull gently and slowly and the belt comes right out.
I'm sure you know this - these things work partly on inertia.

Thanks guys. Yes even when pulled out slowly it sometimes binds and won't pull out or go back in until I either push on the brake a few times or put the car in and out of gear. The problem is another intermittent one to add to my list. Intermittent problems are a car owners worst nightmare as the dealer may or in many cases may not reproduce the defect and it's lots if trips back and forth to the dealership. The odd thing again is my wife noticed it on the passenger side too. This is a first for me after owning over 32 cars
