Service Engine Display in Dash

Took the XKR to get the oil changed and have it looked over for anything it may need. They did the change and everything else looked fine. BUT they could not reset the Service Engine display in the dash. They said they tried many times but it would not reset. I have a new battery and there are no other issues with the car. This Indy shop specializes on high end cars and is very reputable and I trust them completely. So any one else have this problem? It's not the worse thing that can happen but it would be nice to get it fixed.

Assuming you/they are doing the procedure below, try it again 30 more times
usually takes me 5 or 6 tries to get it.

I'm getting better at it. Only took three attempts for the XK last time.
I was pleased to find the F-Pace procedure is more scientific than ritualistic. Engine compartment and driver's door open - switch ignition on - fully press and hold accelerator and brake pedals for 10 seconds - service reset message clears. There's progress for you.![Icon Lol](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Mine just came back on after I needed to disconnect my battery. Took me a bunch of attempts the last time I reset it. I remember in the past asking a Jag tech to reset it for me. He did it in seconds with his eyes closed! It was funny to watch him.

I suspect JLR were deliberately avoiding the need for dealers to hook up SDD just to reset the service indicator and over thought the solution. It's reminiscent of the remote fob 'pairing' procedure on the XK8 with a combination of button pressing and stalk pulling which has to be completed within a set time.

Saw an interview with Bill Gates once and someone asked him how they came up with Ctrl-Alt-Del and why that combination of keys was needed to bring up task manager. He said, "we just made it up". No rhyme or reason to it. Even typing 3 keys in wasn't necessary. Just 1 would have been sufficient. Funny how things work out.
