Shakedown Cruise - sounds, shakes, rattle and rolls
Thanks for the responses team to my XKR post.
So, I've had a week to test run the car and a few things and observations.
1. I have the fuel tank EVAP issue where the tank wont take fuel quickly. Still need to diagnose what the issue is, purge vales, air pump.......???? Forum is a huge help.
2. At startup the engine is a little lumpy for maybe 10 seconds and then quickly settles down and runs smooth.
3. Good input from the forum on the leather dash shrinkage issue. I spoke with several shops with estimated budgets from $695 to $6,000. One shop says he has repaired many in place by removing the front glass and stretching the leather back and regluing it. Another said if I bring the dash to him he would recover it new for $1,800. Another said $6,000 to install a new Jaguar dash. I got two estimates of $200 per wheel to restore and repaint the 20" wheels. The instructions on the forum for dash removal is fantastic.
4. I occasionally hear a bit of a grown or moan from the rear right area of the car. Not sure if the active suspension can cause this. Doesn't change with steering or over bumps in the road. Not a rubbing or bearing noise. More like a scraping. I'll get it on the lift this weekend.
5. I was able to get an OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth transmitter with the Torque App. The water temp runs about 195-201 degrees. Voltage at 14.6V. Its a nice app. Can't believe Jaguar left this off the car.
6. I also got the GITANK receiver for Jaguar so I can stream phone audio to the stereo.
7. I can hear the diff. Not a bad or loud sound just a little surprised I can hear it. Not used to this as I have been driving diesel pickups for 10 years. For a convertible the car is quieter than most.
A little stiffer and more road/tire noise than I was expecting based on my pre-purchase test ride, probably due to the Portfolio package. The Alcon brakes are amazing. But all is nice, the car is a real pleasure to drive.

So I'm in the shop wrenching with my son on his Toyota and he says to me. Dad, your Jag is driving me crazy.
I'm like what are you talking about.
He says that every minute or so the car is making a high pitched sound. He can hear it and then my daughter walks in and says the same thing.
I'm like you guys are crazy. I can't hear anything.
Then after a while I remember this I found with the car's paperwork.
Never heard off such a thing.

The fuel shutoff is usually because the charcoal canister is gas-soaked or the system is otherwise clogged. SDD has a test routine specifically for the purge valve and tank system. Might help diagnose it. Get a Autel AP200 system with the JLR download. Gives you most of SDD but the active programming and some of the test routines, without the misery of figuring it out.. $80 on Amazon.
Enjoy!

There were some posts in this forum on this "touchy" fuel feed shut-off issue, and I've experienced this myself. Consensus seemed to be that the automatic trip of the station pump was set too delicately, and shut off at the slightest "burp". Try a different pump or use another gas station, and see if you get different results.
