shifter bezel cover

shifter bezel cover
Hey Mates,
The bezel around my shifter has a chip in the coating exposing the base metal. I thought about some type of touch up paint, but know in my heart, it'll still look like a "touch-up". So....., since I'm having my engine covers, coated (carbon fiber) the hydrographic process, I thought of covering it with a piece of carbon fiber vinyl. Anyone have experience doing a similar project? It seems Ebate is crawling with vendors selling carbon fiber wrap.
Happy Trails........

The 3M 1080 carbon lays nicely (I did my interior wood with this). The bezel is intricate but I think this could work. I was thinking the same due to my interior side chrome on this bezel starting to bubble.
You could possibly take the bezel off, strip the chrome where its flaking and trying painting as well. If you take your time, I'm sure this could fix the issue too.

Anyone know how to remove the bezel?
Stuart
P.S. I recently had my engine appearance cover done in hydrographic carbon fiber. See: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-cover-129949/

Thanks Stuart. Removing that cover was a next thought. Yes, I've looked at your project and liked the outcome. In addition to the main engine cover, I'm having the side cover's coated too.
Happy Motoring....

RedRider48,
Glad you posted the picture, as I thought you meant the chrome "J" bezel that surrounds the shift lever. The inside edge of that bezel is a common wear area. I sorta fixed mine with a little clear epoxy applied carefully with a toothpick. Not perfect, but better than it was before and not getting any worse.
I'm not sure if CF wrap will work on the surface that you want to fix. What do you do with the gear position letters? I'm sure that the OEM part is expensive but there might not be another way to fix it and be satisfied. I'd try a paint or coating product and build it up to blend into the surrounding area.

Yeah Stuart, those letters are a problem. My girlfriend made the same comment, but, she put this way...So Einstein, what ya going to do 'bout dem letters? LOl!
Fact is, I'm thinking of some type of appropriate medallion, sticker, Jag ornament etc.
Dunno yet?
BTW, the guy at the shop where I left my panels for the CF coating, gave me a a couple sq ft of CF wrap they use...he wished me luck...I'll need it me thinks!

Thanks for posting the photo. Photos are always helpful, as I suggested.
If you can get the cover off, I would have it Hydrograhic Coated. You can always find sticky letters the same size and font to match what you have already.
Yes, the chip does not look good. Needs repair. It is a focal point to the console.
