shopping for an '07 XK coupe
Hi All,
Tomorrow I test drive a nice '07 XK coupe. I've been on the fence about holding out for an '07 XKR but it seems to bump the price range by 10k. And I'm thinking the 300 hp NA engine might be fine. It's 0-60 and QT mile are nothing to write home about. But It is a beautiful shape in silver with the senta 20" wheels.
Any thoughts please chime in. I wanted to do a lot of research before buying, but I have little time to spend on the forum.
-Thanks
(P.S. I was considering an '04-'05 XKR, but it seems the next generation might by a better engineered drivers car)

I don't want to burst your bubble, but the miles for your car are considerably high for a Jaguar XK. With all the cars out there, you should be able to find one with reasonable mileage (50,000 or less). You say you don't have much time to spend on the forum. It would definitely behoove you to read up on the a/c drainage issues with your car as well as dashboard leather shrinkage. There is a wealth of info on this forum that will help you greatly before you make the plunge. Although the newer generation XK (2007+) is a robust car, repairs can be severe. Good luck and let us know how you do.

I am approaching my third year in my Silver 07. 80K miles and counting!
The truth of the matter is that if you can reach an XKR... Do so.... If not, then enjoy an XK. My car has every option (except front parking sensors) and the one thing I really miss is Horsepower..... Yes I look good, yes I sound good, but no, I can't leap like a Cat should....
I will be trading up at some point.....

How much are you looking to spend?
For around town cruising the XK is fine, but if you are looking for spirited drive, the power is a little lacking except above 80 mph; then it is fine. The handling on the XK is decent, but there is some real body roll and the springs are very stiff. Makes for a bouncy, leaning tendency over bumps and curves. It's a Jag thing they do throughout the range.
Build quality and details are great. The car is very well put together, but as mentioned make sure the AC fix has been done. The only way to know is a receipt for the service. I would not take anyone's word on it otherwise. Transmission pan can crack and leak. Either way, it should be replaced around 50K to ensure long life for transmission. I would step up toe 2008 if possible to get ride of the mast antenna.
My old car may still be for sale; you won't find a better maintained 2007 coupe for sale, IMO. I spared no expense and I live walking distance from Jaguar repair shop. I had the car on the lift at least 4-5 times a year for this or that. It's seafrost green and British Car day hit. More people were impressed with the XK than virtually all the Aston's that showed up. I think it's due the color and large size of the XK; they dwarf the Vantage parked side by side.

XKR first gen vs XK coupe 2nd gen
setting aside aesthetics,
first gen XKR is superior for 0-60 and climbing steep roads
however
XK 2nd gen (2007+) is otherwise a better driver's car
-better steering, better transmission that is controllable by the driver (as in put it back to first while you are still rolling

The 385 HP 2010 - 15 is really the way to go.

Comparing a x100 to x150 it's literally day and night , the x150 still feels relatively modern and whilst the interior is quite plain it doesn't look dated you'll also find the x150 feels a lot more taunt and nimble on the road .
End of the day it's up to you I'd suggest taking both cars out and seeing which one you fall in love with ...happy hunting!!

There's a stack of turbo 4cyl now that would run rings even around the xkr so I wouldn't be looking too much into the 0-60 or 1/4 mile I'd say if the power feels adequate go for it .

Forgive me I was over zealous in the process of welcoming a potential new XK owner and didnt check the original thread date
That's a tough go , such a nice colour combo it looks beautiful in Red
And I gathering you found the power 'adequate' 😄😄
lol Lastly any chance of updating the 1/4 mile time in your blog we've cracked a 13.7 in mine it's N/A with a tune and free flowing cats

When I decided to get a XK - everyone said horsepower could be an issue - so I opted to buy a 2013 XK with the 5.0 engine almost 400 HP and that eliminated that issue. Personally the car (in my opinion) is on the high end. I've seen some in the very low 20K recently - and yes, age is as important at millage. Check the
VIN number online and do some research on the car. All used cars that are over 10 years old will have some issues - especially British, but most of it is not major. Good luck - and hope you get a dream come true.
