Default Should I buy this XKR?

I can pick it up for $23k. It has 109k miles but its a 1-owner car with a flawless carfax maintenance history. Should I go for it or is a ticking time bomb after 100k miles?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Have a thorough inspection by another Jaguar dealership going through all the major systems. Yes, the price is low, but it's a Jaguar with a high clock and repairs at this age and mileage can be excessive and quickly add up. Yes, it's a plus with all the service history. If the body and interior are clean with no paint/accident history, at that price you probably will not get hurt and will probably be able to flip it again if it doesn't work out to someone who wants to step into XK ownership.

seems fairly priced to me.
Bushings may be needed, brakes, belts, fluid changes, filters... but the engine should be solid for another 150K. At least that's my expectation.

I smirk when I hear others complain about dependability and heightened maintenance as that's not my experience at all... and I have had a few.

Welcome to the forum Khan,

Good advice already on checking service history and expectation of item requiring attention.

I can't comment on the price as values this side of the Atlantic are very different but the phrase in the Ad that caught my attention was:

....BOUGHT HERE NEW...ALL SERVICE WITH OUR DEALERSHIP...

If the dealer had any doubts, they would have moved it on through the trade. Reputation counts for a lot in the used car business regardless of where in the World you happen to be.

I hope it checks out OK but if not, walk away because there's always another out there.

Graham

Thank you so much for the advice. People who don't own these cars say the 2007 is an electrical nightmare. Is there any truth in that statement? Do any members have high mileage XKRs?

Yes! If all I had was $26k Heck yes!....This car is from a rich area in Marin County San Francisco Bay Area and it's all freeway around there with long commutes, so 109k miles is not that hard on the car, plus it's had all of it's services and pampered it looks like. I cant find any wear in the interior. It's from the Dealer so he's not gonna sell junk to get him in trouble like GGG said, he would just wholesale it to an auction house. Must be a clean car. I'd be surprised that the car was still available. Stop reading this and call and put a deposit on it NOW! Then have it checked out by another dealership. but at least its held for you.
I own a 2007 and it's been the most reliable car I've ever owned. Go for it....I would!

Holy crap! Just saw you can get it for $23k (faint) Make sure it's not a flood car and has clear title. (that's where a dealership "probably" wouldn't sell that kind of car)

If its well cared for it will last forever and you'll love it. If it's NOT... it will be a nightmare.

The Carfax on this car looks very good with regular maintenence by a Jaguar dealer. I can't see anything wrong and absolutely no evidence that there is water damage or salvage.

Here's the link to the Carfax.

Others here on this forum can provide an opinion after reviewing the data via this link.

Check it out. To me car looks normal with average mileage for a 2007 and as one other poster here stated, the car comes from an exclusive area of Northern California.

Thanks again for all of the advice. The salesperson said the only negative about the car is that the guy was a smoker and there are some rock chips on the hood.

Make sure it has had the "AC leaking on passenger floorboard" TSB done.... That is a costly fix when not covered....

You can shampoo the carpets, and re-condition the all of the leather interior with a product called Lexol, which over a period of time will bring back the smell of leather to the interior of the car.

All of the interior should be leather, which includes seats, dash, door panels.

Only hard thing to clean is the inside roof interior material, try Fabreeze.

When buying, try to stay within these pricing guidelines:

Looks like my offer would be: $23,000 to $23,500

If you are considering it, don't drag your feet too long. There are a wide range of buyers for this car and it won't take long to sell it if it's clean. The smoking would be a deal breaker for me, but that's up to you. Good luck!

I'd negociate having this TSB be done correct (pulling dash). If they are not budging on the sales price, offer $500 more with service done. Make sure they take pictures of the work to verify they actually removed the dash.

I'd also recommend replacing the transmission pan-fluid. Costs about $500 at an indy dealer.

If this car wasn't solid, they'd wholesale it out and be done with it.

I wouldn't worry about the miles on the clock either. Mine has done 160,000 plus K's and still feels like new. Basically if it is regularly serviced then all should be good. Check that the spark plugs have been changed. The transmission fluid and filter. (They change the whole trans pan as the filter is fixed.) Also the belts should be changed. As for electrical problems. Only issue I had was down to the famous battery problem. I replaced mine with a AGM battery and no more issues.
As long as you get a good inspection done and you take it for a long test drive. You should be fine.
Good luck with your decision.

Glad to see you came over from the other forum for advice. The feedback you get here will be far more reliable than hearsay.

It's only a smoker's car if you can smell the smoke. I smoke cigars in my XK now and then and no one would ever know.

I got my my 2003 XKR with a bit lower miles than that at 86k. Haven't had it long enough yet to say if it's going to be an issue yet, but mine was also very well maintained and documented, so my fingers are crossed.

No, but a lot of the information from there can be verified because their uncle lives next door to a guy who used to work with a guy who was married to a woman who's dad used to have one.
