I just checked mine, and while I couldn't get a good picture as it kept moving, I noted the positions of that joint. My hook-thing is about where I outlined in red, and when it lowers, the hook catches that locating pin.

Anyway, yeah, it works just like the way you'd think it should. Maybe it got cocked-up a little bit and all it needs is a light prying with a screwdriver to pivot the hinge directly above there? Probably while lifting up a touch on the forward part of the 'hood'. Me, I'd do all that with a bit of pressure, see if at least it's Capable of movement.
Big thanks, Cee Jay! You're right, there's a point in the course of opening/closing the top where the hook thing has some play, and I was able to move it so that it would line up again with the silver pin when it got to that stage. Everything looks to be back to normal

I guess now it would be interesting to understand how it happened and why it locked up. If it happened once it will happen again. Is there any of the parts that look worn or did this happened because you reversed the top as it started to open and caused the misalignment. Also did it happen to only one side or were both misaligned.

As Jagtoes said, I too would like to understand how it happened. I wonder if there is a clue in the first post " So I jump in and try to reverse the top going down." Any chance you came in contact with the moving top as you jumped in the car? The mechanism can be quite sensitive to hitting something or someone when in motion.
Also, for future reference, there is no need to 'jump in to stop and reverse the top". It can done entirely with the remote. Here is a snippet from the remote instruction sheet:
2. If dropping the top, to instantly stop top movement, depress UNLOCK button on the SmartKey again during the cycle.
3. If raising the top, to instantly stop top movement, depress LOCK button on the SmartKey again during the cycle.
4. To reverse the top drop process, depress the door lock button after stopping.
5. To reverse the top raise process, depress the door unlock button after stopping

Well I haven't been able to recreate the misalignment by simply interrupting and reversing the top operation again, so the only thing I can think of is the wind must have caught the roof at just the right moment during the top operation.
It got misaligned on both sides, and I was only able to move the hook-shaped pieces when the top was in the middle position where the rear lifts up to allow the tonneau cover to open. I only moved them about 1/8" but that's all it took to get them back in line with the pins. Anyone have a shop manual with a diagram of the frame for the convertible top? Nothing looks worn to me, so I think there must be some place to adjust the position of the hook-shaped pieces.

I stopped the top operation somewhere before the misalignment occurs and found enough play in the hook to move it about 1/8" and when I tried the top again, it just lined up properly, and hasn't had any issues since. In the thread KJ linked to below, there's a photo of the adjustment mechanism for the hook, but I didn't end up having to use it.
