So sad and worried…

I have followed everyone’s suggestions and found a new independent shop to try, recommended by two sources. They are willing to inspect/emission test the car before the end of May AND look over the “issues” that persist after four tries by the indie shop that replaced the timing chains/tensioners/water pump/spark harness in the original check engine code but unfortunately forgot to properly seat the air intake to throttle body and completely missed attaching a vacuum tube which threw the lean fuel codes twice. Speaking to this new shop, I already feel better as they expressed confidence in resolving the remaining vibrational noises and poor mpg. Wish me luck everyone! If this works, I will be happy to share their name with fellow PA jag owners…catdoc

Kongo, we must live near each other as I am 20 miles from this shop. It is NOT a Jag shop but was highly recommended by folks that are vintage jag service shop owners and British car service people. Fingers crossed. Rather funny that the appointment is scheduled for Friday 13th May. Luckily I don’t own a black cat or walk under ladders or have any broken mirrors… will give an update after my visit. Enjoy your spring driving!!

IanXF, the original check engine fault code WAS due to failed tensioners and a one tooth jump on the one timing chain. That was the 13k repair. The car has been back to the local indie shop three more times for repair of problems which admittedly were completely due to the young mechanic missing that the air intake to throttle body seating was not secured properly and that a vacuum hose was not attached at all and ultimately mangled. The current remaining issues since timing replacement are rough idle felt as vibration in steering wheel and a significanreduction in mpg.

I have not been to any of the local British car shows but if I remember correctly there is one right in Hellertown so maybe this year.

My continuing saga…
So, I left you all with my plan to take the car to another Indie recc by an AstonnMartin shop recc by a poster on this forum. The mechanic inspected the car and told me that there were a lot of new parts noted, all codes had been wiped by the indie shop who did the timing chain/tensioners/water pump work, no new code were noted but there is definitely abnormal engine vibration. They then inspected the engine mounts and found both beginning to leak small amount of fluid. They also are concerned that the engines balance shafts may not be timed correctly post repair. I am going back to first shop tomorrow to hear what his “research” on my issue has yielded. $13K in and my poor car is running like a beat up farm truck. I am going to need therapy after this…

Topix and jag software…I will check.
I am very concerned that at this point, they are tired of seeing my disappointed face walking in every few days after they have “tried” to right their wrongs and they are hoping that I will just get frustrated enough and go away.
they seriously misled me, promising “exceptional” Jag service with their “experienced” indie mechanics with extensive engine repair experiences.
Since they guaranteed their overpriced (per JagForum) work, I intend to either get a proper fix on all issues or give me a refund so I can take it elsewhere. It is looking as the garage that the local Aston Martin guys sent me yo have a much better handle on things but I may have to reconsider driving 120 miles to another Jag shop since my local JLR is really the reason why I am in this position since they wouldn’t see the car for over six weeks and told me it probably was something simple and to just drive unless it limped home. Your engine is not a ford ecoboost or a gm ecotec. You really need the right people looking at it. Are you certain oem parts were used or best match junk from china? I avoid the latter at all costs. Variances in the hundreds or thousandths of an inch will be detrimental.
The reason I suggest the topix subscription is that then they will have access to all jag codes.

Guy, Absolutely agree! I made sure that they guaranteed Jag OEM parts before giving permission. The original repair took several weeks because they disassembled the car to diagnose, left it in pieces for a week as they went on a Florida training conference, then had to wait for JLR’s parts…it has been quite the nightmare and I keep hoping I will wake up soon

Update Number Six Visit
Hello everyone. Thanks to my new friends at Jag Forum for all their support! My car is now back at the independent shop to deal with the outstanding issues since they replaced the 1 tooth timing chain jump. To recap, they forgot to seat the air intake throttle body hose and forgot to attach a vacuum hose. The car has had significant vibration in steering wheel and pedals and driver and passenger seat since and is showing about 15% reduced mpg. I am now being told that the motor mounts are leaking and need replacing. OK, this was confirmed by another shop but they warned me that that may not be the only problem. No codes are coming up at all except for a stored fail in the fuel supply which, the indie, tells them that the car is not calculating mpg correctly. They explained it is more of a display problem than a functional problem. Hmmmm. I REALLY am so jaded by their performance thus far, hard to know what to believe. Will get car back at end of week and report my progress. The odyssey continues for my girl…thanks for listening. CatDoc

I know this won't feel good to you but the 'story' @ the car's computer not giving accurate mpg (based on your experience to date with them) would lead me to call BS. There is certainly something going on that they either aren't capable of fixing or can't diagnose. If it were me, they would be given one more time to correct everything. If they fail then it is off to a better facility and sorry to say, your attorney.
