yeah glazed over that she died, especially when it comes to something so serious as death I won't ever speculate as to the reasons things may or may not have happened. Whether the car played a role or not is not something I'll chime in with.... with regard to Paul Walker's death I mentioned that tire age MAY have played a role and that we should all be weary and aware of our tires age but to the cause of that crash no one knows whether it was purely speed, mechanical (reports say no but we really don't know), tires, who knows what that resulted in the eventual car-B-Q. We know he's dead, driver was a reckless fool, families and ambulance chasing attorneys were hoping to put the blame where it doesn't belong for pure financial gains.

And for the record - that SC430 is hideously ugly! A rich girlfriend swore she wanted one when the salesman handed her the brochure I begged her to wait until she saw it in-person, when she finally did it was the first time she ever told me "you're right!". A buddy of mine has a gold colored one, nothing like taking ugly then parleying it with ugly as a color! As you Brits would say - "she's no oil painting!"

Check out this example of car safety I heard about yesterday - Tesla Reveals Details on Last Year's Fiery Model S Wreck in Mexico

All the news could focus on was that a "Tesla model S bursts into flames" hoping to ignite fears about how unsafe they are. Driver walked away!

I am no fan of the Lexus SC430.

But do you know the background? Designers from Toyota were sent to Cote d'Azur to study the culture and the style and express it in a car. I must say that they have captured it perfectly. The Solara for me was the ugliest car- as if done so deliberately. But people who buy Toyotas do so for entirely different reasons.

Didn't know the background. interesting...

Really?!?! I thought the later Solara wasn't bad. Not my cup of tea but certainly not bad... not like Buick Rendevous (dad had one that lit itself on fire destroyed the car in the driveway and almost his house) looked better once properly cooked, Nissan Juke, Nissan Cube, BMW and Merc 2 door hatchbacks, new Merc C 4 door (they forgot to design the back end), Pontiac Aztek, Nissan Murano convertible, most all recent Acura sedans, Pontiac Crossfires, Honda Crosstour, and lastly for the price I think the GT-r is just sad looking considering the performance it possesses

You are an enigma Leeper, no one understands you....which is precisely why you need a XKR. It will define you and shield you from misconceptions.

haha perhaps that's good, perhaps that's bad... keeping a mysterious persona can be advantageous. I seek not to be defined in any sort by what I drive, wear, or do. As you have seen I certainly don't seek acceptance to conform for the sake conforming no time or interest in that at all, being part of a "pack" is of no interest I laugh at Harley people for that very reason. XKR may well be my next play

If I was in a current position of no xk I would be leaning towards the LC500 .

Similar lines to our jags, luxurious leather everywhere and a 2+2 configuration plus a glorious quad can 5L !!

Clearly you get the XK, space-pace-grace.
I agree, the LC500 is the only other car around the $100k (US) that gives me what the XK has.

looking in the $35-50K range, again for the price of that nice car/mufugly grill I could have both a C4S cabriolet ($40) AND a XKR-S ($62-68K). That grill is a show-stopper for me

The front end of the LC500 is a just Gawdawful. It really ruins the rest of the car IMO.

I'm with you Ralph. I think the same thing when I first saw how Toyota thought the over-inflated head and taillights were going to be a thing, they look like they're billowing off the car somehow they thought that was a visual delight. Acura thought the huge chrome railroad locomotive cow catcher front grills would be a hit and stuck with them for many years, now Lexus thinks the melting grill belongs in the museum of modern art. It's a deal breaker for me... not that I was going to drop a 100 large for the LC but the design idea I find quite unattractive enough that it would stop me for considering their cars.

Dude, you add contrast stitching to leather where there was none. That front end you can redesign blindfolded.

Actually the LC500 shows how advanced and well designed the 5.0 XKR is.
If you read the reviews, the niggles are categorically solved by the 5.0xkr.
However- the damn thing has a heat gauge!

I call bull! If it were designed in Newport Beach it would have a silicone front end just like everything else from there

All that says is how easily placated the men from there are.

I used to own a SC430 it was midnight pine pearl with the saddle leather. It was comfortable and slow. I liked it for the first 6 months then the last 6 months it was god awful. I don't miss it at all.

Start with a modern X150 and "re-skin" the exterior bits (and add any other retro features you may desire). The final result would be a modern and very reliable chasis and drive-train with the looks of an "antique" (pdo) car. It would be a whole lot less expensive to complete and the final result would offer everything a modern car does, without the old-car problems, and be tailored to the exact specs of the new owner.
Looks like this has already been done with the X100.

Redone and called an XK180.

Since we're on the subject of the xk100 being used as a donor vehicle I thought it would be appropriate to add this one
