Default Noise feedback system removal

Anyone else removed theirs? While changing the coolant temp sensor on my 2010 xkr today, I must have broken (or it already was) broken a vacuum line for the symposer. So since I'm in there I started researching it, and it pretty much seems like a unnecessary complicated thing to have. I think I'm just going to remove the entire unit rather than replace that vacuum line. Thoughts?

Be careful when you remove the symposer - it might decompose!

Haha, I think that's exactly what happened to the vacuum line, it was extremely brittle. It seems like a pretty straight forward job, but the only thing I'm wondering is if I'll have to make some sort of block off plate. And hope for no CEL

When mine gave me problems I just asked her to quiet down so I could hear the radio. Is that what we are talking about here.

Per the workshop manual:

The noise feedback system generates a sporty, powerful engine sound in the passenger compartment, at high engine load and speed settings, to enhance the driving experience... The symposer system modifies induction sound waves of a specific frequency range, at given engine settings, to produce the required engine sound.

If it doesn't make your car go faster, it's like lipstick on a pig. You don't need a symposer if you drive a convertible; otherwise, just open the windows. Why add unnecessary weight, cost and complexity that can (and has) fail?

Wouldn't the inside of the vehicle be quieter, especially at highway speeds, without this device?

Though best I can determine, if it fails, nothing bad happens?

I wasn't even awake my XKR had this! I used to have a Z4 with the inline 6 motor and they used to have something similar, but in one of the tubes leading to the bulkhead there were 2 pieces of foam; 1 at either end. It was a popular mod to remove 1/all of these pieces of foam to get greatly induced induction noise. Sounded great.

Is there any sound dampening foam in the Jag one?

I don't see what issue people have with these systems to be honest as it's genuine engine/induction noise which is being piped in, as opposed to new BMW/VW cars where it's a 'fake' sound is generated through the speakers.

I never knew the Jag had this... that being said at least they are not using the SPEAKERS to make noises that are totally fake..... That being said I had always thought the noise you heard was the way it was....nothing piped or amplified... interesting...

Before people get too excited, I think the symposer was first fitted on the 5.0 litre cars.

They should have spent that money on a damn coolant gauge.

Exactly my thoughts too....I'm wondering if this might be a possible place to tap in a pressure port for a boost gauge. I've been reading about the ford focus guys doing this and the shape of the tube flange even looks similar, but I won't know until I have mine off. It's a pain to get to...

I was investigating this earlier today when I was poking around under the hood. While it looks easy enough to defeat, I think it will be a pain to remove completely.
