This one is a real head scratcher... None of this looks legit and in one of the interior pictures, it has the newer style steering wheel and in another, it has the right one. The 175 under the R badge on back??? the cheesy plaque on dash never something Jag would have done. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for posting this very odd find. It's definitely not a normal XKR175 since those were only sold with Ultimate Black metallic paint and do not have the "175" under the badge or the dash bling, which I agree is pretty awful and even appears to me to use a non-Jaguar font. And the "Platinum" lettering on the trunk lid?
This is definitely a one-off car, whether "frankensteined" by some owner or, an option that seems unlikely given how gauche the car looks, put together by Jaguar themselves.
Line 14: "ALUMINUM J GATE SURROUND"
Yes, I know, but it isn't a J-Gate in the 2010+. My 2010 build sheet also lists it as a(n) "ALUMINUM J GATE SURROUND". I get annoyed, but I really shouldn't.
Agreed with the other comments, the extra 'bling' is atrocious.
Someone should Carfax it. Probably was in an accident and was "restored" like you see it now. Would explain why things aren't matching up with what an XKR175 should have and why there are two different steering wheels pictured, original being replaced because of airbag.
I will say that if done correctly putting 175 under the R isn't that bad.
I've been tempted to put a '75' on the back of mine, because there's nada to indicate it's anything other than a Speed Pack XKR. Getting it done in the correct font & finish is a bit daunting, though.
That looks like a keeper for sure. It is missing the splitter on the bottom of front bumper but that is really easy to damage but the rest definitely passes the "smell" test for sure

I would agree with your assessment. Although the story about it being a press car /whatever is clever, it sounds far fetched. And no way is the dash plaque or rear badging anything that would have come from Jaguar. My guess would be an eBay shopping spree to try and "enhance" a wrecked car, which was re-painted in the incorrect color.
