Default Start up issue

My car been having a slight starting issue for the past two weeks. When i start the car up it has a slight sttuter hesitation, once it starts up it idles and runs awesome. It only does it if the car sits for a day.

I also notice my keyfob dont unlock/lock the door at a short distance anymore, i have to actually walk up to the car for it to unlock only. I'm wondering if something is not recognizing causing it to hesitate slightly on a cold start and for both my keyfobs not to work at a short distance anymore? I put new batteries in both renotes. My XKR use to start up very smoothly. I also use a battery tender

I have a 2007 XKR and experience the same thing with the rough starts after sitting. Also seems to have a tapping noise for a few seconds.

I am guessing that your fuel system is not holding pressure and that is causing the hesitation problem. It could be a leaking injector, check valve in the fuel pump, or a regulator leaking. I am not sure if and where to check fuel pressure on your car, but earlier XK8's have a schrader valve on the right side near the throttle body. Connect a fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve and see how long it holds pressure. Should hold for pressure for days.

If it is leaking down then you get to go through the system and find out which component is leaking.

Maybe a battery starting to fail. Do a load test (or at least check volts) after standing overnight.

As for the key fob, I think that's a different issue. Replace key fob battery and it will be fine again.

Thanks alot for the reply guys. I did a load test and battery is reading 12.0 volts flat when in "ON" position so thats not good. Is this a good battery for replacement?

Is the starter motor having trouble turning the car over, or does it crank longer than normal and hesitate a little before idling smoothly?

It cranks longer than normal and hesitate before idle smoothly. Once i drive the car , then turn off and back on it starts up smoothly

That sounds like a low fuel pressure issue caused by a leaking fuel injector, pump check valve, or fuel pressure regulator, not the battery. You may have a low battery, but if it cranks over OK it is not causing the starting hesitation problem.

I haven't had to replace mine as it was only a year old when I bought the car. It is an Interstate but I don't remember the model numbers.

If you are about to replace your battery, if it were me, I would go with and AGM battery that fits the mounts properly.
