Hi Luke, great to see someone using this big screen. I was about to buy it, but afraid of losing all car settings.

Please let me know two crucial things for me. Can you manage all things visible on attached photos via your new system/screen?

I do believe so, give me a little time I will snap shot all the vehicle settings available and post them here by the end of the day

Still very much interested in seeing the backside of the tablet where everything plugs in if it's not too much of a pain to show.

Also curious as to whether you can add apps from google play store. Torque Pro comes to mind. I understand you're getting a lot of requests so all in due time and still appreciated.

There is a picture of it on one of the sites menetioned in the original thread. Let me see if I can find it.

EDIT:

I have a pic of the back but there is something wrong with the forum at the moment. I keep uploading and saving the pic but it won’t show up after saving.

Yes I can confirm you can download apps from the google play store and there is an obd2 adapter for those that may want to dive into more of the diagnostic apps . Perhaps I will try that next.

I did try a tmps ( tyre pressure monitor system) I found this to be unreliable as I believe the reliable one is the one where you change the valve on the rim itself which is more involved .

I tried the simple one that replaces the tyre valve cap with a sensor but it looked bulky and ugly .

Im sorry I didn’t take any pics of the back of the android unit to show the connectors but if I get a chance to, I will in the future .

As promised below are some more pictures of the settings available.

I have noticed the aircon now has 7 different speeds for the fan ...as well as an eco mode . I can’t remember how many speeds were available before from the original air con controller ..

I can confirm the date and time can be changed on the screen and it’s reflected at the instrument cluster.

Main screen showing the basic air con / climate controls

Extended functions for the aircon/ climate plus heated steering amongst other settings

Screen for vehicle settings

Vehicle settings

Trip settings and mileage plus average oil.

Android settings

Android settings

More android settings

Date and time settings plus some developer settings

Date and time settings do control the instrument cluster clock settings

Screen when off

There are many fuctions under the factory menu as well but it’s too many to post for now and requires the password to access it.

Hope it this helps answer many questions people May have .

Yeah, good question about cooling seats. Does it work on a big screen?
Plus one from me - parking aid- does it show on a screen- if so - reverse triggers it or you have to launch it manually?

best

How unique aka, proprietary are they? I'll write back to the seller and see if I can get more information.

Edit: I saw the install video on the thread jahummer referenced. Will still send a note but looks clearer to me now.

Parking aid shows and is automatically launched when engaging reverse .

As for cooling seats , I think that was from 2010 models onwards , mine is 2007 so I can’t contribute to letting you know if this works. However I do believe that it would work and this would be something you can perhaps check with the supplier.

Gat a reply from the seller. There are cables obviously and a couple of decoders, all proprietary, as I suspected so in the fwiw category, 1 year warranty, and I don't know what the availability of these would be in let's say 2 years.
As Jahummer mentioned, this could be a good replacement as Jaguar discontinues these types of parts for our models, but the same applies to this. These might be worth the cost around $600 but $1000 plus install for the non DIY, seems too high to me.

And again, I'm still leaning away from the look of that giant *** screen in my face.
That could be because I'm just not use to it in our dash but we do have a small cockpit in our XK's. It might be ok if it timed out to sleep mode after a minute, but to have that bright screen on constantly, especially during night driving? I dunno.

So I get the modernization part and I like change in general, but can't decide if I like it or really dislike it.

As I said earlier, I bought my XKR for driving enjoyment. The only infotainment I care about is music, and I've got that covered by my old iPod Nano and CDs. So, for me, all those icons and apps are distractions. I'm perfectly happy with how my touchscreen came from the factory, and see no need to spend $1,000 to "update" it.

Completely understand the views and opinions of all who like it and those who think it’s too over bearing .

Personally for me it’s made things more enjoyable for me since I am getting a lot more out of the connectivity and the reverse camera certainly adds a nice touch as well as the GPS being so clear.

Driving at night for me is personally fine I quite enjoy the updated look and it does have a night mode which dims the screen.

I hope they will allow a little more user customisation such as sizing for app icons , fonts and perhaps colors and home screen layouts.... but for now it’s fine ...

I get it, it's a generational thing. It's just not a priority for me.

Another problem I have is that I'm OCD, and the misspelled words (mirrir feedback, driver away locking) would drive me nuts.

Who am I to complain? Their English is far better than my Mandarin.

Yes it comes with the wood trim as mentioned in above posts, it’s a close match not 100% perfect but good enough for me to be happy with it.

I do believe if you have a different trim they are able to accommodate and supply it with the relevant trim of your car .

Yes Stuart agree the spelling is annoying , hopefully I’ll get that sorted with an update to this first version amongst a few other things will keep everyone posted on that ...

Dubai is spelt Dubay on the front screen which is annoying also for me .

Great review. Thanks. It would be nice if they had something like that for a 2014 XK.
