The MoT is the annual roadworthiness test in the UK for vehicles over three years old. The acronym stands for Ministry of Transport which was the name of the government department responsible when it was introduced in 1960.
This is my XK's current MoT:
...... and the emissions record:
The test stations are run privately but all connected to the DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) network. Tests are documented in real time and publicly available. Anyone can check the MoT status of any vehicle. A valid MoT is required together with valid insurance before a vehicle can be taxed. This is the annual VED (Vehicle Excise Duty) which is presently 600 UKP for my XK.
Thanks, Graham. I've got some really minor surface rust spots in a couple of places (oil pan, couple of steel support members) that I was going to touch up with flat black.
Here in Florida, there are no inspections at all. Mostly noticable as occasional lack of rear lights, but there are certainly a few ****boxes out there. You learn not to get too close.
Funny how some make/models get surface rust and some dont. I found some tiny rust areas on my 2015 on the rear subframe and drive axles. Cleaned to bare metal then flat black. When I get It on a lift, im going to really give it a good cleaning/inspection then a coat of cosmoline or POR15 black paint.
