Default Supercharger

Anyone ever heard of a supercharger going bad after 15k miles? That is what the Jaguar dealer just told me was the problem with my 2013 xkrs.

Can they elaborate on the specifics of the failure? Foreign object damage, coupler failure? There’s not much to the TVS blower.

Supercharger failure wouldn't surprise me if those 15,000 original miles were done a quarter mile at a time!

Seriously, more information would be helpful. Are you the original owner? If not, when did you buy it and what do you know, if anything, about the previous owner(s) and the maintenance history of your car?

I am the original owner and this car was my baby. I never abused the car at all!

Yep, a worn and rattling SC coupler / torsion isolator is common on the AJ133SC (and the AJ126 as well), although they don't usually become excessively rattly until well over 15,000 miles.
That said I bought my F-Type with 27,000 km (16,780 miles) on it and it had the dreaded coupler rattle from the get-go, and had it replaced under warranty.

Same here. I bought my 2010 XKR two years ago with less than 17,000 miles on it and the coupler was already noisy by then so I got the whole snout changed under warranty but while it was being done I changed to the solid coupler.

Me, too. I had the supercharger snout (coupler) replaced on my 2013 XJ 5.0L at 40K miles. That's a common problem with the 5.0LSC engine.

I guess instead of leaving it in my garage I should have been driving it more often. At least then it would have been covered under the warranty!

Someone here on forum mentioned once that a batch of superchargers on the 5.0L (and 3.0L) had the torsion coupler installed backwards, an error in the factory assembly by Eaton, which is why they were failing....

Thanks Stuart.
Why does it take less time on a F-Type 5.0 SC?

Based on what I saw on my car and these pictures that were posted in another thread the original isolator was just poorly designed.

The new one has a metal clip on the end of the spring to stop the wear that occurs which causes the spring to have too much play.

I put a solid isolator in mine so hopefully won't have an issue again but I would expect the new design to last a lot longer as well.

Default Who is the manufacturer of Jaguar Superchargers?

I have a 2014 F-type 5.0 and I'm trying to find a puller to use on the supercharger pulley without having to remove supercharger. I have found some pullers online but nothing specific for the Jag, http://www.billetflow.com/Pulley_Puller.htm. These look like theyd work but would be great if I knew the manufacturer and type so I could get the correct puller, I tried a 3 prong puller but its not man enough/wrong pulling force direction for this unit. Any ideas?
