Default Taking some brave pills, changing this cluster - RESOLVED

I've been living with this issue where unless I'm standing right next to the door when I open the car, when I get in there is no ignition and the sidelights come on and I have to disconnect the battery for 5 mins and 'reset' the modules. As long as the key is in the car when I reattach the battery all will be fine until the next time I forget. If the roofs up it's not a great issue but when it's down and it fails, its a pain in the ****.
Anyway I've got the SDD software and I've managed to source a suitable replacement instrument cluster and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on installing new modules and the pitfalls that ensue. Looking at the start of the procedure it says the keys need to be deleted...gulp...I'm way out of my comfort zone here so any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers Ian

Best of luck to you! I know when I had my keys programmed, the dealer indicated that there is a transponder in the instrument cluster, so it makes sense that you'd have to 'divorce' the keys from that cluster, and reprogram them to the new one. I imagine the cluster would have to be in place to accomplish a divorce or reprogram.

I could be mistaken, but I think SDD must have an active connection to JLR and the transfer of data from one cluster to the other can only be done by them or perhaps it was only odometer data transfer which required that...

But yes I do know the keys was be divorced first from the precious so they can be added to any new cluster.

06.5 XK can obviously be done offline. erase keys app, program new ICCM routine which will transfer security and keys, correction app can be done after by somebody with engineering mode. this has all been in WDS\IDS since 2005 launch.

Hi All, Just remembered I haven't posted an update on my strange ignition problem where unless I opened the car standing right next to it I would not get the ignition circuit to activate and the sidelight-lights would come on permanently, only disconnecting the battery for 20 mins would reset the car and solve the issue, though resetting the windows afterwards could be a major chore as even though 'reset' the convertible hood wouldn't operate. After months of internet searching I found a couple of posts where owners had had this problem and changing the instrument cluster solved the problem. I managed to get a cluster with a similar part number and whilst having SDD I wasn't brave enough in the end to recode the new part. Fortunately a local Land Rover independent garage were willing to have a go and after fitting the cluster and moving the key information and immobiliser data the car now works flawlessly though for some reason they were unable to change the mileage on the new cluster so my car has now lost 70k miles so am now trying to to find someone who can do a mileage correction for me.
It's amazing the difference the new cluster makes, the centre screen is so much clearer and brighter and the indicator tick and warning bongs are a much nicer tone.
Cheers All

The center display can be swapped out pretty easily. Ask me how I know.
