Thanks! I've seen it when I disassembled it the other day... I thoguht that was part of the sounds system to adjust sound... anyway... sill wants to know what's
the other. Anybody?
Think you’re holding the aspirator, which has a fan to drawn in cabin air for the climate control system to sample the air temperature.
The things you mention do not shut down immediately when you shut off the car, the car stays in convenience mode for awhile before shutting down. To shut down faster, lock the car.
My unit is 11 months old and last week the gps quit working. I replaced the gps antenna and still no signal. I also sent a message to the vendor on ali express but no response yet. So far my experience is not good. The bluetooth is useless, no mapping or wifi. Love the idea but...
Right when the Shutdown started I began buying too many Chinese things. I took stock a couple weeks ago with my 'booty', and out of the probably 40 things I bought, I have six that still operate. Seriously. I didn't pay a lot for any single item, but it still shows a trend for quality. An 87% failure rate is abysmal.

And this’s what I feared. It’s not “made in China” that’s the problem, it’s who engineered and specified components. Chinese factories are capable of making any thing to any grade specification you’d like, from “military/industrial” grades that last forever to the cheapest lowest bidder components not likely to last more than a few months to a year.
If these panels were OEM suppliers like Alpine, they’d be engineered and sourced to last. However that’s not the case and it’s likely these are manufactured as cheaply as possible with no major brand oversight. I mentioned early on, I think, the biggest problem with these is going to be after a years time, are the original suppliers still going to exist to support them? In these scenarios it’s quite easy to shut down one brand and reopen as another as there’s no regulation for such things.

@va3mrj elaborate please. Is Location services turned on in your security settings? How is Bluetooth useless? What do you mean by no mapping? Navigation? certainly that won't work if you don't have GPS services turned off. No wifi? Did it ever work or just stop?
The units are typically nothing more than Android Tablets with some added code to interact with a few touchscreen car functions and also the sound system. It would be helpful to others if you added details.
I'm not a fan of bitching about products that someone is not using/owning. I'm not paid by any of these Chinese companies and I'm far from stating that I like Chinese products. However I have this screen and so far it works well for me (almost 1.5 year now). My car is not a daily driver, but I'm quite sure that it would not change anything. But as you know I put a lot of effort and love into my car - so maybe that is the reason it rewards me ;-)
I have owned mine for nine months. All long as you understand that you are investing $ 1 ,000 dollars for a poor quality radio, and NO factory support of any kind if you have a problem. You can only throw it away.
Mine has developed no gps signal, no wifi connectivity, poor bluetooth connectivity and terrible audio when it does connect. Therefore no time and date, no mapping and no phone.
Aostr is dishonest, they say they give warranty and technical help but what you get back is smily faces, cannot understand message, a copy of your order saying to order again, over and over. No help at all.
If any one in this group knows where to send this for repair I would appreciate it. I am a former radio shop owner and mechanic, electronic technician. There is no voltage at the gps antennae and the wire on the 5g antennae was disconnected inside the housing. I can only go so far without technical drawings. For those of you who have not taken the unit apart, its and android head, with a radio mounted on the back plus several daughter boards stuck with double sided tape and black insulating tape. It really looks cobbled together with bits and pieces and then added the can bus modules and connectors. I suspect one of the 5 volt regulators but again without a schematic its almost impossible to fix.
Bluetooth is very poor audio both receive and send, now I have none. Some owners have replaced the condensor mic and moved it but still crappy sound. No gps signal so no mapping. This is not a typical android unit, it has an add on box several smaller daughter boards and convertors, all connected by various hard wired and plugs. Hope this helps.
I am so glad I found this post. My first Jag and missing CarPlay was driving me crazy. I purchased this unit, probably paid too much but I feel a little better after finding this thread. I am hoping to install in a 2014 XKR, I'm sure I will have questions, like how to remove the bezel / facia without denting or damaging the leather?

Removing the bezel is the easiest part of the installation if you have the right tools. Search Amazon for "automotive trim removal tool set" and take your pick. The set I bought in 2018 is no longer available.
I did not buy the Tesla style display. I used the trim removal tools to replace the cupholder assembly in my 2013 XJ and had to remove the bezel around the touchscreen to access the center console trim.
I finally got my unit working, I threatened to return it because I was not getting any audio out. I used a headphone amplifier to confirm the android unit had audio output so I tested it down to the optical encoder. The company sent me another one that was for a different model Jaguar and it fixed the issue. Everything is working except the internal speaker for the parking assist doesn't work and the rear speakers aren't working and I can't figure out how to connect the radio antenna. I will fiddle with it a bit more to resolve those issues.
The seats have heating and cooling, the steering wheel heater and buttons works, GPS works. Overall I am pretty happy with it.
I took a video of it but I didn't realize when CarPlay kicked in my iPhone would stop recording, if you all want to see video or any pictures, let me know.
Sadly I did crack my OG bezel, the infotainment unit was mounted a little up too high which pressed on the top release tab so not exercising the caution that I needed it split. Fortunately it's a clean break so I think some epoxy on the back should be enough to hold it together and not be noticeable if I ever want to put the original Unit back in.
@chaznatr thanks for sharing. I don't have mine anymore but you seem to have a unit the was improved upon. I have some questions please: 1) "The company sent me another one that was for a different model Jaguar and it fixed the issue." What specifically did they send you and which model was it for? 2)The temp display at the bottom of the screen appears/displays in Fahrenheit but on you climate adjust screen, it's Celsius? Can you elaborate because on the earlier models or at least the one I had and others have had, the climate functions show by swiping up un the screen where as yours appears to be displaying a separate screen. Hope the question makes sense.
3) You note that you have cooled seats. This is new functionality. Can you confirm?
4) Can you post a link to the supplier please? There are many and they are all selling slightly different build. This will help others in the future. Thanks for the posts!
Here is the unit I purchased from Alibaba.com.
I just checked, and the cooled seats indeed do work.
The device shipped with the optical encoder for landrover and the xk.
the replacement part was for the jaguar XF and XJL it worked immediately.
On mine I can get the lower controls to show Fahrenheit in the settings. I still can’t change the upper temperature controls.
today I am going to buy an antenna extension to attempt to get AM/FM working. I’ll keep you posted.
