Default Looks good

Looks nice, I 've had mine on for almost 2 years now and it definitely sounds better than the stock one. On a different note, how had your SL65 been? I'm looking at an s65 and have had some previous bad experiences with MB reliability - I'm hoping some of those issues have been resolved in the W221 body redo.

Looks great! What made you decide to change it after owning it for a while?

CVPrez- From my exp with the Mercedes 65 products is they are overkill on performance, its a great motor and great car but they arent designed to handle sooooo much power. The reliability on them is normal Mercedes though. Maintenance can be killer as they require special, very expensive 65 specific items. For some reason lots of 65s have high miles and they have higher then normal accident/paintwork rates.
If it was me Id be happy with a normal 550. If you really feel the need for speed spring for a 55 or 600.

Thanks guys!

I've had no problems with the V12s so far but again only have 5,500 miles. I was told the pre 2005 V12s (non turbos) had some problems but haven't heard anything with the 2005+ V12s with Twin Turbos. I guess I like overkill. I had a SL600 for 3 days and didn't like it so the dealer let me bring it back for the SL65. I've had some problems with previous Mercedes (S500, E500, E320) but they were mainly electronics (audio gateway), starter and leaking air suspension....but the engines were solid. At least mine were and still is. Besides the HP increase, one reason I choose the AMG was because of the forged pistons/crank. I don't believe the non AMG 600s are forged. I know a forum member with stage 3 kit on his SL65 and has no problems so far. He races all the time at the track also.

I'm thinking of getting a "Chip" for the SL65 (ECU/TCU Upgrade) which will give me 81 HP and an additional 132 Torque. I'll be around 685 HP and 870 Torque. Not bad for just a chip....but the chip cost close to $12,000.

I was thinking of going your route when you did the pulley, exhaust and chip on the XKR last year but then I bought the SL65. I was thinking again to do the chip and SC pulley when I bought the exhaust this year but I decided just get the exhaust for now and possibly get the 1.5 pulley, lowering springs and if they ever come out with a conversion kit for the 2010 LED Taillights for the XKR and that's probably it. I'll probably spend the power gains on the SL65 instead.

The W221 S65 are bada$$. Here's a S65 I saw on the internet a few months ago that looks amazing.

Ghostrider, how much were the exhaust? Did they bolt right on? They look great, is there much of a sound or power difference? Car also looks great, what kind of wheels do you have there?

Exhaust was around $2K...give or take depending on the exchange rate for the day from GBP to USD + shipping. I believe retail in the U.S. is around $2,700+shipping.

It's louder for sure when you get on it and also when you downshift. There is also a deeper rumble at idle. Also, it eliminates the 2 silencers with straight pipes from the cats back so definitely louder but not overbearing. It seems the tires break loose alittle more easily but again my SOTP dyno might be off.

If you've seen Florida Phil's video on his XKR with Milltek, you'll know how loud it is.

btw...here are 2 vids of milltek:

1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk3kQGzYxl8

2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUyosJHoULc

I'm sure there are other catbacks that are good as well such as Quicksilver and Mina.

Here is a super loud exhaust by KKS that has a button inside the cabin that electronically controls the valves to make the exhaust loud or soft.

From what ive heard Disco the issues with DBs seem to be mostly owner related. IE engines are often fouled up because they are never exercised properly (id fix that tho ) and other simple things because most of the people who buy them just buy it for the status unfortuneately. I think with proper use and maintnance they can be just as trouble free as an XK.
