Is there anything to do on the battery before plugging a CTEK charger?

The extension exits from the LH rear vent in the Luggage Compartment. There's tidier and more expensive approaches but this works and it's convenient.

So finally I gave it a shot last night. I plugged the CTek to my battery via the "connect" cable (left there permanently and bolted on the other end to the battery terminals) in the early evening and left it outside the trunk to begin with. From the LEDs (lit up to 3 only) it said the battery could use a charge... I came back 2.5 hours later and touched the charger: barely warm. So I thought "what the heck" and moved it inside the trunk for the night. Still barely warm this morning...and the LEDs were lit up to 7...much better.
