I find the Evora's ride to much more forgiving over bumps. The bump steer on the XK is way more pronounced. Have you tried sitting in the back of an XK coupe? Evora has more headroom and not being buckets make it easier to live with; ask our Corgi- she'll tell you. No one buys a Lotus for creature comforts and fancy options. I don't mind the manual adjustments and actually makes it easier to get in & out of. They are two different cars XK & Evora. The former is a GT and latter a dedicated sports car. Depends what you are after. The leather on the Lotus is finer quality, but as you mentioned the switch gear basic in form and operation (for better or worse).

Have you looked at 991 then? Sounds like the balance you want between a car like XK and Evora.

The side bolster adjustment on the standard XK is worthless IMO. Seats are comfy, but never felt the bolster adjustments on my XK made it hold me tighter. They are fine seats for their intent.

I would agree, I drove several standard XKRs without the sport seats and felt more like I was sitting "on" the seat, as opposed to "in" the seat with the sport seats.

And I would second your conclusion with the Evora vs. the XK- two completely different segments in my opinion.

As well as the 5.0 engine, the 2010+ XKR has a few other performance benefits:
  • a better gearbox (ZF 6HP28) with faster shifts, quicker torque-converter lockup and the ability to skip gears when shifting
  • fully variable electronic dampers vs. hard/soft on the 4.2
  • an electronic limited-slip diff
  • Dynamic Mode, where the whole suspension system, steering, diff, etc. 'toughens up' for performance driving
  • Winter Mode for slippery conditions.

I did a similar search when buying my "mid life crisis mobile". I drove the Audi RS5. It was an awesome driving car. Fast, snappy, utterly responsive, sounded great, and that PDK transmission is a religious experience! The downside of the Audi is that it looks pretty Spartan. My wife said that is an ugly choice.

The Maserati GT was in my opinion a real disappointment. Going into my car search the Masi was my number 1 choice. It was a beautiful car. Performance wise it was not what I was hoping for. The interior was pretty pedestrian. I just wasn't thrilled with the look inside the car. The nail in the coffin was the seat would not elevate to a level where my tiny 5 foot wife could see over the steering wheel.

Next up was the 550SL. There was nothing wrong with the Mercedes. It was solid and so German. But it was BORING!!!!

So in the end the XKR was the best bang for our buck and checked all of the items my wife and I were looking for.

Good luck with your search

PLEASE forgive the horrible filthiness of the interior! I left the top down inside the garage and then the wife swept the garage floor. Ugh!

Does anyone else out there have this type of dash insert, and what is it called? I no longer have the window sticker, and the build sheet doesn't state anything decipherable other than maybe "CASTLE BROMWICH", but I don't know why the assembly plant would be put on the build sheet as a line item.
Any help?
Hey Mate,
That sorta looks like American Walnut that's in my '08 Portfolio.

I visited my Jaguar dealer (actually to test drive an F-Type R) and found out my veneer is "Gloss Rich Oak". I personally have never seen oak so incredibly dark brown before.

That's probably my favorite wood veneer out of all the X150s. Good find!

You can also get this beautiful 2007 Bentley Mulliner $60k (save 100k) or a 2004 Rolls-Royce Phantom (save 400k!)

Cheers,

I am hot for a Bentley Arnage for my next sedan. They age so gracefully, that hardly anyone would know a 40K one from 140K one. Really under-priced compared to other lofty cars. So cool looking. I'd take an Arnage over a Continental or Flying Spur any day.

Yes the Arnage Red Label has that old world charm that the new Bentleys lack. But my only reason for wanting a Bentley over any other cars is its MONSTER torque!

The old Arnage engine is the better than the Audi based stuff. I would feel more confident in the long run owning the 6.8 V8 over the 6.0 W12.

When you can get this for under 50K, it's hard to say no...

The RR Silver Seraph is basically the same car as the Arnage but with a different grille, a 5.4L BMW V12, more serene road manner at speeds, and considerably more rare.

Back to Jags. Stop daydreaming

I am bit gun shy if that BMW V12 engine. BMW V12 branded cars are nearly given away on the used market. Can only imagine the head when mixing that engine and Rolls Royce together... Would rather have the Arnage, but would love even more the time where I am really deciding between the as an imminent purchase. We still have 2 years on our Volvo lease the Arnage is to replace Volvo.
