I've now had my 2007 XK convertible for more than one year. Except for the common a/c leak it has been trouble-free.
I live near Roanoke, Virginia, a small city and in the first 12 months of ownership I never saw another XK. This is despite the fact that there is a Jag dealer in town. Corvettes and BMW's I see all the time, and I did see a few XK8's but it was 14 months before I ran into another XK (parked in a shopping mall).
I still love just looking at the car. Every time I walk up to it in a parking lot I feel good about it.
Thank you for the post – very informative. I am now where you were a few years ago – trying to learn what I can before my first Jaguar purchase. When you bought your XK from an out of town dealer were you comfortable in determining its mechanical condition, or did you have it inspected? If so, how did you arrange that inspection? I too live near Roanoke. Do you have any service work done locally?
I am a first time Jaguar XKR (2009) Convertible owner and absolutely love this car.
If you really want to see how these XK's are built, spend 45 minutes watching this video, it is awesome, and you will realize that you have bought an extreme high quality, precision automobile.

Hi Pat,
I was very concerned about who I was buying from. I was only looking at cars being sold by dealers, not by individuals, and I made sure to read up on the dealerships. You can find comments on many web sites.
I found a car I liked a lot in Florida but I read plenty of bad ratings and despite several emails and phone calls they did not convince me they were people I wanted to deal with. Then a few weeks later I found another car, also at a Florida dealer, and they had excellent ratings. I bought the car from a Bently dealer in West Palm Beach. I trusted them and I did not pay for my own inspection. But it is no doubt wiser to pay for your own independent inspection. And, of course, get the Car Fax.
The car I bought had only 3000 miles on it, so once I believed that the Car Fax and the mileage was legit there was not much more to do.
I've had the car serviced at Crossroads Jaguar in Roanoke. Friendly people, very pleased so far - in fact I stopped by there today to check out the F-Type.
You are correct that 2010 had significant changes including the change from the 4.2 to the 5.0 engine. I tried to put together a listing back when I was shopping that showed the changes year to year along with some notes on options and color choices. You might want to take a look and, if possible, provide some updates -
But when Jeremy Clarkson stands away from the Jag and asks: having seen this could you then go out and buy a BMW or a Mercedes? He concludes: I couldn’t. And let me tell you, I couldn’t either.
Tony
Spot On!
I test drove the others, but couldn't get the look, style and elegance of the Jag out of my head. Something speacial, that was what I was looking for.

Good luck with your shopping.

Thanks Tony. We bought my wife's "M" car from Crossroads and have it serviced there as well. I'm still looking for the right Jaguar ....

Hi Timo,
Your Public Profile shows that you're in Estonia. You posted your question in the X150 Forum, which is for 2006 - 2014 Jaguar X150 models. You should post your inquiry in the X100 Forum for your 2001 XKR Silverstone, which is here: Jaguar X100 Forums
Take your car to a used car dealer near you and see what they will pay you for it. Keep in mind that it's over 22 years old and may need a lot of work, as rubber parts (bushings wires, etc. deteriorate over time and rust damage often is hidden. You stated that your XKR is a Japanese market car. Is it RHD? If so, that will affect the value.
Bottom line: I believe that your car is too old to make an educated guess about its value without actually seeing and examining it.
Yes im in Estonia. Car is LHD and as I understand Jaguar sent only two of hem to Japan. Rust isnt problem but rubber part you are right there was lot of work.
All the best,
Japan is a RHD country. I don't understand why Jaguar would export any LHD cars to Japan, as Jaguar builds RHD cars for the UK market. I suspect that your XKR was not produced for the Japanese domestic market and was shipped to Japan by a third party, and not by the manufacturer.
Timo, your XKR's VIN shows the market for which your car was manufactured. See the VIN Decoder:
Japenes have seen it as a status symbol to drive an LHD car. As a result, there are a surprising high number of LHD cars from prestige brands. In Germany many LHD Porsche, Mercedes (especially AMG), BMW etc. including Jaguars are imported from Japan. Here it is a big market for dealers to bring European LHD cars back as Japanese cars are said to be often in very good shape with low kilometers/mileage on the clock (but on the negative side with a lot of hours spend in the typical japanese traffic jam).
Tony:
When I found my 2008 XKR, on Craigs List in San Diego, I had one night to research the vehicle. I had never sat in or drove a Jaguar in my life. I have a friend who works in the car business so he gave me the CarFax on the vehicle and I ordered a digital copy of the 2008 XKR brochure so that I could become familiar the the accessories, equipment, and the "R" badges.
The vehicle resided in La Jolla, garaged, and covered, which was clearly visible in her appearance. It was love at first sight! The seller had me at the push of the red button.
Truth be told the vehicle was in such good condition that I would have bought it as a convertible and also if it was an XK.
Now, three years in, I was lucky, that it is a coupe, (less hassles) and that it is the apex predator, the XKR.
