I had a new Black Mercedes 190-16 Valve, the fastest production sedan in the US at the time, 141 MPH, in the 80's that had a 40% tint.

With that on the rear window it was a 'bitch' to park at night because you can see very little when reversing if you are depending on just the back-up lights and I have excellent night vision.

You may want to think about 15% on the rear and the front side windows because you have the same issue about seeing traffic, pedestrians and other obstacles when turning or pulling out, with super dark side windows.

It looks good and 15% lets people know you have mysterious looking 'Super Model' passengers, not totally hidden like a 'Burka'.

I have also noticed on other cars that have dark side windows you can't tell what the driver is looking at and therefore what they are going to do when you see a car with dark windows pulling out into traffic and you surely want people to get out of the way of your new and expensive 'baby'.

Otherwise you have to be 100% on the defensive and not make James Dean's fatal mistake, " They must see us", and assume no one ever sees you.

Since you live in NJ....I would recommend a light 15% tint from my experience with tinted windows....

Enjoy your new beauty.

Jamjax, I think you have your tint backwards. The tint gets darker the smaller the number -- it represents the amount of light that can go through it. Most states have a legal limit of 30% on front side windows. SUVs/Trucks can have 20% on rear windows and rear side windows. I have usually just tinted 30% and called it good on my cars. This time with the Jag I went 15% and I hated it -- I took it back and had them replace it with 30%.

I have been using Pinnacle Ceramic tint, and been very happy with it. Not a lot of shops carry it, so you may have to look if you want it. The ceramic tint is very fade resistant, and does a wonderful job of blocking UV.

Do you remember what % tint you got? I don't want to cause a problem at night but I really need to do something. The sun in the summer is almost unbearable.

Too bad this isn't a couple years ago, I had a contract in Forked River, NJ and spent 14 months up there. I'm very familiar with the area as I went to High School in Pine Beach back in the '70s.

Interesting...

Why only non-metalic?

Metallic tint can block your GPS and/or Satellite radio signal, depending on where the antenna is located.

I would tint it, but I don't think I would ever tint the windshield. It is actually critical for you to be able to see out of your windows! I had tinted my X350 to 35% all around (except no tint on the windshield) and at night, sometimes it was hard to see out the sides and back in certain conditions. I would not want that on my windshield!

Just tinted mine 35%. The meter shows it at 26%. It came out great. Every car i've had I get it done. Looks better, car is much cooler and saves interior condition. Unfortunately i've had some basal cell cancer, so doctors note taken to MVA gets me a free pass for window tint. Even if I didn't have it, i'd get it done. As long as you don't go limo dark, you'd probably be fine. Maybe 40%?

If the interior is black I'd consider it, but otherwise no... I am not much for the look. The ceramic tints are impressive in their heat reduction. If I lived in AZ or TX, maybe I'd let looks aside just for the benefit of the tint.
