Tire Rotation and Maintenance Question
#22
Yea that's what I had to do on a couple. Tap the 19mm socket so it covers the entire lug. If you get it off it'll be stuck in the socket. Just pop it out with a screwdriver and a hammer if necessary. On one of my lugs, it was so rounded I couldn't get it off. The tire shop had a special socket to get it off so that's your last resort if necessary.
I will give this a go today and report back. The wrench that Jaguar provided feels like a flimsy hollow piece of tin. I am very happy to know what I will now have a proper wrench and lugs in the event I get a flat tire on a cold frosty day. Nothing is worse than not being able to get the lugs off.

Mission accomplished. I had to use my Harbor Freight dead blow hammer to get the socket to seat properly on two lugs and then I was finally able to get them off. Also the dead blow hammer is an excellent tool to use when a rim is frozen to the hub. You can give the rim a couple of hard whacks with no damage.
This exercise of changing out the lugs and getting a proper lug wrench has to be one of the best investments of time and money for any xk owner. Now I can take my long road trips knowing that I am adequately prepared to change a flat tire.

Agree. The stock lug wrench is garbage IMO. The capped lugs are ok but they can't stand up to the abuse of the tire shops....

Thanks again for bringing this wrench to our attention. Just arrived today, and I agree, it looks and feels good. The sockets are 6-point, and look and feel good too. Only 'cheap' part is the plastic 'storage bag', but I wasn't expecting one anyway. Will be taking the wheels off in a couple of weeks, so I'll get a chance to try it out then (and hopefully not before!).
