Default Touch Screen Display - upgrade Climate problems

I've tried this and 'another site' for an answer...

My 2006 XK has a basic Touch Screen Display (TSD) (6W83-10E889-AD) with poor brown/green presentation, so I bought a newer 2009 TSD (9W83-10E889-AB) which has the option of changing the display to a much better (visually clearer) blue/black.

I've now learnt that the one main difference between my old 2006 TSD and the 'new' 2009 one is the Climate interface. I've done much searching of this and other X150 sites and the matter isn't really covered in any depth, other than 'it's different and won't work'. The problem would appear to come from the TSD/Climate module incompatibility, in that 'Climate off' is permanently displayed although the system can be accessed via the car's manual controls and buttons. Heated seats via theTSD do work but the screen/face/floor vents options are greyed out.

The simple question is - can I fix this with a 2nd hand 2009 HVAC (A/C climate control module) or is there any electrical boffin on the forum with a work-around idea? I think others have come across the problem, but has anyone tried to find whether it lies within the TDS or (possibly) the HVAC incompatibility - or whether a 2009 HVAC module would be compatible with my 2006 car (2007 USA)?

Just fwiw, my SDD says all installed modules are working ok.
