When I replaced the tires on my 2008 XK last fall, 2,000 miles ago the tpms was working fine and I assumed that the sensors must have been replaced at some point in time. Several months later I got my first low pressure warning followed by more. An acquaintance had a tmps scanner of some sort that could read each unit but nothing more. Three of the battery levels were at the threshold of needing replaced.
I will replace all sensors when I replace the tires in @ 10-15K miles (based on my driving style on these rubber chewing Texas Hill Country Road surfaces).
Until then I’d like to ‘turn off’ the system as I have read some autel units can do.
Does anyone know of the least expensive tool that is capable of this?
Autologic or SDD are the only two I've heard of and SDD would have to be in engineering mode as Jaguar doesn't grant its Techs access. Your cheapest option is to find an indy with the Autologic system who is willing. Remember its illegal to disable it here in the US so you may have trouble finding one.
Glad I read this thread. I'm planning on getting new tires (originals have 14,000 miles) and was concerned about the sensors. Now that I know they can be turned off.. Great! Can the system still be disabled even after one of the bad sensors activates it?

Sensor batteries usually last between 7-10 years . If you are at 7 years then I would change them.

yes sir - warnings will go away if the system is disabled.

it's illegal for them to do it, because they're a repair business. any individual can do it without breaking any law. the owner of the car, a friend, or just some nice person doing you a favor.

True, however you’ll need to remember to re-enable it if you ever decide to sell the car, although with full disclosure to the potential buyer maybe you won’t have to.
The TPMS saved me. That warning system is a real safety measure. Personally, I'd have them replaced and not disable. Replacement at somewhere like Discount Tire is not expensive but may save you from an expensive blowout. Just be sure they fit the right TPMS frequency. My replacement was the wrong frequency but you can't tell immediately. It takes driving some 10 miles above 25mph.
Im going through the process of getting TPMS working. Typical Flashing Screen.
DTICs say C1D19-87 and no comm to any sensor.
The car is 15 years old so I start off the process by installing 4 new 315 mhz sensors from VDO , That dosent help, Did the road trip , no joy.
Rescanned , same DTIC,, Read the workshop manual and started to do the pinpoint test.
Found the receiver on the Vert is just above the Rear Junction Box.
Was about to disconnect the Receiver and do the resistance check when I opened the Receiver Box and Looky what I found.
this is my receiver
I sprayed the receiver board with Contact Cleaner and lightly brushed the crud away.
Reinstalled and reran the scan.
Previously the scan was Permanent , now it shows intermittent. But TPMS light and warning screen went off. For a little while.
Looking at that board , Im now concerned that with all the issues Im seeing , wondering if this might have been a Florida water car. Need to run a Car Fax I guess.
