Traction Control...NOT

Funny... I have been more or less babying my new car ('11 XK). Today as I was driving to lunch I put it in sport / dynamic and nailed the gas after I had made the turn onto the main road near my house. I was very surprised that I didn't break loose at all... no traction control kicking in (or at least no dashboard lights), no nothing. I waited until I was pointed straight to hit it, and I was already rolling, probably 10 or 15 mph. Once the car got up a little bit into the rev band acceleration was as good as ever, but I have to say right off the bottom it felt a little soft.
I wasn't using the paddles... I'm assuming I must have been in 2nd or something.

RJC,
Yes, the E was a brute... I had done the usual stuff, pulley, ecu, cooling mods, etc and it was so torque heavy that it would absolutely shrewd the rear pilot sport ps2s all day. Any speed under 40 and they were toast if you jumped on it. I think the 18" rims were part of the formula for the E being such a beast out of e hole. As long as you rolled into the power carefully it was a bery fast car off the line, surprised many extreme sports car with a dowdy looking E class four-door.
But like you said, cold and clinical compared to the drop dead lines and full sensory ocerload of the crqzy fast XKR. And yes, the looks of the coupe are what turned me from the drop top. A tough choice and good decision whichever way you go. Love the looks and extreme lines of the coupe, almost exotic level of design extreme.
But there are days, driving through tunnels or canyons, where I can only imagine the insanity of 500+ loud horsepower roaring out the tail pipes as you rip through the gears, wind in the hair... Hard to top no top at times.

To top or not to top...this is the question... Lol
How was your 55 at cold start, mine was pretty fierce shaking the whole car and scarring small children and pets lol, once it warmed it settled into a smooth idle.
Did you spend any time at MBWorld? If you did I sold my 06 to Deaguero in 2007.

Interesting, mine idled smooth as silk no matter the conditions. Can't say I don't miss her at times, lots of character, those E55's, tons of bang for you buck, sturdy and readily modded for relatively little $ (Forman import). Yes, was a regular at MBWorld. What name did you post under?

I remember seeing a vid of the E55 vs XFR 5.0 SC. The XFR won by 1.5 car length but was suprised how the E55 kept up. I believe the E55s are fairly easy to mod also with a chip and pulley. Definetly the XKR is much better looking IMO (can't compare 2 door sports coupe vs sedan). The 2012 E55 twin turbo (errr...with E63 badge) is even more potent but still outgunned by the F10:

Hey Ghost,
Funny you mention the new TT 63, I was wondering just yesterday how the R would stack up against it. Looks like in the longer run it faded. The Panamera S was clearly outgunned, they should have brought the turbo.
Wonder how the new TT SL 63 will do?

No doubt.....I wonder what the 2013 SL63 will do also. Usually the E55s are faster than the SL55 due to the porky weight of the SL (my SL65 is overweight) but I read the 2013 SL63 is now lighter than the E63 and so it would be interesting to see if it'll have the same or allittle better performance than the E63. I'm not a big fan of the new SL63 design....reminds me of a SLK (no offense to the SLK crowd). My R230 looks outdated and the new R231 doesn't excite me but maybe it would look better in person. I am also on mbworld but mostly on the W211 section when I had my '04 E500. I don't post there as much anymore after I sold my W211.

The 231 should be nicer in the flesh and I think the new interior is a big improvement. The redesign is very much like the SLS imho. I love the new launch color combo.
I haven't been doing much on mbworld lately either. I was at one point considering a '12 E550 cab or the new SL but MB vented seats don't hold a candle to Jag's cooled seats. I do wish the jag had a folding hard top though.
It's amazing since I got the R I've been noticing just how many countless 911's there are running around here; when I used to drive them I thought they were somewhat slightly exclusive...not!
