Transmission Fault

Transmission Fault
Hi,
this has been an ongoing saga since autumn last year. Th transmission fault light came on on my 1997 XK8 and after changing the oil and filter all seemed ok for a few miles at least. The car began to act strange, the drive would disengage, there was a strange clunk and a jerk going through the gate from p to d. In the end i decided to have the gearbox changed by my local garage here in SW France. i arranged for a breaker in S London to supply a gearbox (60k miles) and had a carrier collect and deliver. Eventually the garage installed the box and for about 200kms all was well. Now the car will drive but will not change up or down, sometimes reverse will not engage, the 2,3,4 manual does not work, all the same symptoms as before. I find it extremely difficult to believe that two gearboxes have the exact same fault. Is there some other reason or a faulty control module? i spoke with garage this morning and they have suggested that maybe the control module for the gearbox may need reprogramming. This garage is not a Jaguar dealer but they have all the diagnostic programmes. There is a jaguar dealer about 100kms from me and i have heard good reports from another XK owner so i think i will take the car to them and get them to identify the fault.
If anyone has any thoughts on this problem please help.
Regards
Matthew

Hi,
The continuing saga. I had a diagnostic check done on the car this morning and the fault code is P0763 a solenoid fault. The printout is in French and somewhat difficult to read, my french is not the greatest! Is this solenoid readily accessible and if so from where?
I am now at the stage where I maybe should get the car back to England where I can get a rebuilt gearbox fitted. Has anyone had a rebulit box fitted in the South?
