Transmission noise?

Originally thinking my 2010 XK with 6,000 miles had an aspirator noise (A/C fan sensor) I now am aware of a very faint whirring noise that follows with the shifting of the trans. The noise is similar to a fan on a desktop computer. If I'm in drive, and hit the accelerator pedal, the noise rises with the revving of the engine. It does not make the noise when in neutral or park when I hit the accelerator pedal. It is also intermittent. I noticed when I put the dial into Sport mode and than back to Drive the noise would disappear and then eventually come back. It is more noticeable when the car is fully warmed up. I'm hoping it's not seriously transmission related or internal. It sounds like it's in the car cabin but sound has a way of traveling. Again, it is very faint and I can only hear it when I shut off my A/C and I need to listen for it. I do have one month left on my factory warranty and am planning on getting an extended warranty as well. Any thoughts?
