Uh Oh...restricted performance
I was driving home on the turnpike last night and all of a sudden the engine light came on along with the restricted performance warning. I didn't notice any change in the engine's performance and I was doing about 80. I took it down to 70 and about five miles later, both warnings went away. Anybody had this happen? Suggestions?

When's the last time you checked your air filters?
Could have been a glitch with fuel metering, or some other sensor. If it happens again you should get it checked by someone with the proper diagnostics. You can always read the codes yourself for an active condition...there should be a history as well.

Mileage is 54,000. Air filters changed at about 45k. I had just filled the tank with gas earlier that day. Not sure if it's related but I always use Shell or Mobil and this time I stopped at BP. Also, While the restricted performance warning was on, there was no change in performance. I thought Restricted performance automatically kept you from highway speeds.
