Default Updating from 2007 XK to 2010 XKR - anything to watch out for

Just bit the bullet on a nice 'new' 2010 XKR conv. with 6K miles on it as a replacement for my 2007 XK conv. Having lived through various issues like the a/c condensate line fix and periodic flat batteries on my 2007, are there any recurring issues I need to be aware of on the 2010 5.0l cars that I should plan for that other owners can share since it the 2010 just exited its 4 year 50K mile factory warranty?

Be gentle at first because you now have twice the power you used to have. I love the demeanor mine displays when I start in SPORT mode, then turn on DYNAMIC while driving. Changes the little kitty to a psychotic rabid feline.
Oh, and you still (more) have to watch for battery problems and low voltage. Pretty much all your old problems are gone.

I think the 2010 models had more than their fair share of water pump issues.

Even with the new 5.0 direct injection block - I thought they redesigned the block for the 2010 MY from the old 4.2 AJ8.

Thanks Cee Jay, however 510HP is a bit down on the 800HP that one of my cars has, however that one puts it on the asphalt through a couple of 15" wide slicks.

The irony is that the previous owner of this XKR was a retired lady in her early 60s!

Similar story to mine...I purchased my 2010 XKR in Feb 2015 from a lady who originally bought it new when she was 85. She sold it this year (with only 2,700 miles on the clock) at 90 before moving into an assisted living facility in Florida. God bless her. I hope to be driving a Jag when I'm 85 if things go my way.

Hey! Me too! Mine aren't slicks, but M/T Pro 31-18.5s. I don't drive mine much, two miles per gallon.

I believe the pump issues are different, but there is still an issue with the pump on the 5.0. Just make sure you check it for leaks from time to time.

The other issue, seen on a few cars, is with the supercharger torsion isolator. The symptom is a rattling like marbles from the 'nose' of the supercharger.

Another problem. Which I am currently suffering from and will be remedied next week thank GOD under warranty is the "timing chain tensioners and their guides". Thats right... on a 5.0 (not the 4.2).

The story goes the V8 Land Rover's have this problem all the time and the tensioners and guides are the same across the board. Not sure why its not a problem in the V8 jags but it did happen....to me. At around B49165 the tensioners and guides got a major overhaul to a "more robust" system to prevent the problem - however any 5.0 below this has the old ones.

So my 13 XKRS is in the clear buy my 12 XKR was not. At about 24,000 miles I noticed on cold start a "Chat chat chat chat chat" noise that sounded metallic coming from the front of the engine but only for only a few seconds during the initial "Roar" on startup. If the car was warm or had been driven that day the sound was either gone or much quieter for less time. Basically the tensioners are a hydraulic system and the oil was bleeding down too much which is the issue allowing the timing chain to rattle. There whole purpose is to prevent that startup noise by putting tension in the chain. If they fail at doing their job - you get a nasty startup noise!

Specifically: the tensioners have a ratchet mechanism that is supposed to maintain timing chain tension when the engine is not running and there is no oil pressure. If one ratchet fails, the affected chain rattles briefly when the car is first started, until oil pressure pushes the tensioner out.
