My old 2008 XK has 109K miles on it, it has a few tiny dings and scratches but it looks awesome from 1 foot away. I have been fortunate (until now) to not add any blemishes to this beauty.
I have a hip problem, leading to a disabled license plate which helps keep the parking lot dings in check, I thought.
I pulled the car into a handicapped space and parked it…came out after doing some shopping to see and older, small, women photographing the car while her VW Beetle was sitting (too) close to the car with the door open. As I got closer she was photographing the scratches she had put in my rear bumper. I paused, checked out the parking and then looked very closely at the damage. The damage was minimal, not enough to get the bumper repainted but since it is on the drivers side I’ll always see it. Frustrated I asked what happened and she explained that the spot was a little tighter than she thought and clipped my car while trying to park. I showed her that in fact she had tried to squeeze her car in the area left for wheel chairs to unload from a van. Her cute VW had impact damage on each corner. Oh yeh, she also hit the car parked on the other side when she backed out after hitting my car.
So, it is a car I drive everywhere and not a classic, I’ll live with it but….!
Bummer, Indeed you would think the handicapped spots would provide some protection, but nothing can protect from pure stupidity. Sorry for your damage. Any chance you can buff it out?
Bummer! Do you think she was going to leave a note taking responsibility for the damage if you hadn’t come out when you did?
And to think they let these people “pilot” a 4000 pound missile at highway speeds.

Most of it did buff out but there are several deep scratches, life goes on.

I believe she was going to leave a note and contact insurance. BTW, the VW only weighs 3,000lbs and is not missile like.

I parked in a furniture store lot once that was completely empty. I still parked in a very far away spot. When I got back the lot only had one additional car in it.... RIGHT NEXT TO MY TRUCK. I have a picture somewhere but can't find it.
Life has many adventures, I purchased a Mazda in 2004, stopped by Costco on the way home and since it was brand new I parked far away from every car in a section that was barley within site of the entrance!
You guessed it, I came out and there was a single car parked right next to my shiny car. Except now my new shiny car had a door dent!
I still have the mazda and the dent. (at least it was on the passenger side and low)

My kids are terrified of parking next to my car, worried they might door ding it. I tell them it builds character and confidence in driving. Largely because the alternative is to have my wife park next to it, and she is not worried about door dings

I’ve had the same thing happen to me before. I will NEVER understand why. The only logical explanation is that the person thought, “I know why that a$$h0le parked way out here, he’s worried about his precious car, I think I’ll f**k with him!”. Can’t think of any other reason.

Weird as it sounds, I reckon some people mean no harm by it, and actually think it's the right thing to do. They're filling the car park up in a 'tidy' way. These are people who line their pencils up on their desks.
Also (and I confess there's a little bit of this in me) some people find it easier to reverse into a parking space if there's already a car in the next space to line up on.
