Synthetic motor oil adheres well to internal moving parts, so I'm not sure if it does more harm than good by cranking but not starting the engine, especially if fuel is being pumped into the injectors without being burned. What harms an engine is water vapor from combustion that condenses in the exhaust system and crankcase and causes corrosion. Bringing the engine up to normal operating temperature will cause that old water to evaporate. But it also causes new water vapor so here we go again.

This is probably the method you are talking about:

I do that a little after the oil change and when starting for the year. Then I let it idle a half hour and take a flashlight around to make sure things aren't leaking. That's my post winter check, then I use it normal like from then on.

6months is nothing to worry about. I had motorcycles that hasn't started for over 10 years. Drop fresh oil and fuel. Remove the spark plug leads or ignition coils and give it a 10-15 second crank without spark to circulate the oil. Bike runs great with the ignition back on.
When storing bikes/cars long term, I usually put a balloon over the exhaust pipes and inlet holes to minimise moisture entering the engine when the ambient temperature and humidity changes throughout the different seasons.
