Exclamation Water in bottom of trunk?

Hi everyone:

So I was noticing that the XKR was getting very moist inside to the point I would even see mold forming in the back seats if I didn't drive the car for a couple of weeks. Today I decided to lift lid cover and see inside where the spare wheel is and noticed a large amount of water pooled inside...So I removed the spare tire and pulled the duckbill out and cleaned everything up but still I am puzzled as to where the water would be coming from? Could I need to replace the trunk weatherstripping as the car is about 15 years now? Or is there somewhere else I should take a look at?

Thanks for your time!

You don't mention whether this is a Coupe or a Convertible but the source is likely to be one or more of the following:

1. rear hatch/luggage compartment lid rubber seal
2. failed glass to metal sealing (Coupe)
3. blocked drains
4. failed joint in the bodyshell panels
5. plugs/grommets

Many years ago I persuaded my wife to climb into my XJ6 luggage compartment with a torch to look for a leak whilst I played a hose over the outside. She was suspicious at the time but did spot the leak. With advances in technology (and a smaller luggage compartment on the X150), I'd probably put my phone inside and video the results.

Yes sorry it’s a coupe.

Check it's not coming in via the rear light units. Remove the grills in the boot for a look.

@GGG , do you ask her to step into the boot often?

I haven't repeated the request although I'm sure she would have been amenable.

Ok, such terminology on this side of the pond will have you in prison for murder, unless you can convince the judge it was suicide, and just plain kinky.

I didn't LEAVE her in there.

Now I understand why the luggage compartment has an interior handle for the US market but not for Europe.

Also had same problem when first bought the vehicle in Jan 2021. Possibly it had been standing somewhere and it was a condensation build up over a period of time, after drying it out I have not experienced the issue again. Would like to know the location of drains though if anyone can supply photos.

The drain is located just 6 inches back from the spare tire thread hole.

Thanks, I am aware of that one. I thought maybe there were some small drainage channels in between boot lid seal and body I was unaware of

Time to get a Smoke Machine! That'll find your problem in a few minutes, nearly guaranteed.

I am having the same issue with my 2011 xk. Waiting for warmer weather to come before I try to track it down.

So went and investigated and it seems the reason it is getting wet inside is because when water goes through here is it leaking down so there must be a tube or something obstructing from here...Does anyone have any idea of what I need to do? Thanks!
