Water pump nightmares - shouldn't JLR step up?

Sadly, I have been struck with the new generation water pump failures. Twice in 30 days. Last month the 5 litre supercharged water pump began leaking coolant and now 2 days ago the 3 litre supercharged began making an awful metallic clanking noise and upon inspection found the water pump pulley wobbling about hysterically.
Considering how many posts there have been on these forums and elsewhere online, I am somewhat perplexed as to why a recall has NOT been issued. I have reached out to JLR but have not had a response as of yet.
Has anyone here had any discussion with JLR regarding out of warranty coverage for such an overwhelmingly common failed part?

I wouldn't hold your breath. Unless there is a significant number of failures auto manufactures won't have a call back. Unfortunately none of us have the data of how many WP failures there have been . If we had that and it was significant then you could try a class action suit (like done to Audi) and maybe get reimbursed. Until then you'll just have to dig into your pockets and pay for the replacement.

Never ever take service management’s word on reimbursement from corporate... They will always tell you some BS or another, take it upon yourself to call jaguar customer relations, get a case assigned to yourself and talk with your case specialist personally and express your dismay with their products.
JLR customer relations aren’t the best but sometimes you’ll get lucky and if you annoyed them enough you’d be surprised what they offer just to get you off the phone.
be persistent and hopefully things will work out in your favor🤞
good luck with your issue

Timing Chain Tensioners and Guides.
Nikasil Cylinder Linings.
ZF 5HP24 Gearboxes.
Convertible Top Hydraulics.
That's just a little of the GFY greatest hits of the X100. Jaguar is very unlikely to do more than a TSB that you end up paying yourself. At least the newer cars overall have a lot less stuff going wrong.

From what I recall, Jaguar did cover the cost of repair for the nikasil issues.
Hahahahaha.

jahummer,
Sorry for your back to back water pump failures.
Are you aware there is a class action lawsuit JLR for water pump failures.
You may be an extraordinary witness having experience it in 2 different JLR models with the same pump and never on the other.
"A group of law firms with extensive class action automotive litigation experience is investigating premature timing chain and water pump failures affecting 2010-2015 Range Rover and Jaguar 5.0 liter engines (AJ-V8 Gen III engines). Jaguar Land Rover of North America, LLC rejects most requests for post warranty repair assistance for these components even though there have been multiple design upgrades for the timing chain assembly and water pump. Unanticipated engine timing chain or water pump failure constitutes a serious safety hazard and may result in extensive engine damage. For further information, please email tsobran@sobranlaw.com or call (781) 741-6075 from 8 AM to 6 PM EST."

I dont know what teeth it has, because I cant see the damages or the misrepresentation or the clear cut design flaw.
In the Ford case they argued that Ford claimed "Built Tough" but the water pump did not last the useful life of the engine, and it was placed inside the engine, a design flaw that cost owners thousands to repair, or in many cases a new engine.
The claim against the Jaguar timing chain is similar, they use Jaguar's marketing that the chain lasts significantly longer than traditional belts- lawyers are arguing this is false advertising.
Wish Brutal was still around.

I had the extended warranty on my 2014 XKR-S and took it in for a service check one month before the warranty expired; 22K miles on the odometer. The dealership service manager suspected a "slight leak" and replaced the pump and hoses under warranty. AND gave me an F-Pace as a loaner to drive for three days while my car was in the shop! I appreciated the service.

My friend who occasionally gets large orders to machine water pumps- gave me the best advise that is making a lot of sense now.
Never replace a working water pump, it may be much better than the next 5 you will put in there.
On another vehicle, I have 300,000 miles and 20 years on original water pump.

With that many failures of the pump I'd start looking for other causes of the failure, a common cause if you will. I had my pump changed in 2014/2015 (IIRC) by the dealership but they didn't use the latest design. I had a leak pretty much from that point on but the reality was that the pump had been installed incorrectly by the dealership. The pump itself was fine - and still is (I have it in a box in my garage), but the tech had failed to properly locate one on the gaskets and so there was a leak path. Not knowing this at the time I purchased the latest version of the pump which I installed last year and which has been fine since. I suspect that the previous pump would also have been fine if it had been installed correctly.
