Went to 5 figures and question on oil check
OK it was a warm Sept. day and we went for a ride to see the start of the fall foliage. Just after starting our ride I hit 10,000 miles which was a milestone for me for my fun car. Got it in May with 6600 miles on it and just turned 10K. Considering I only did 2400 miles a year in my previous fun car this was major for me. Also I am starting to remember the old days when I had my last convertible. Great time.
So after 2 hours later I put the cat in bed but decided to check the oil. I waited maybe 3-4 minutes and did the E-oil check but it showed it was down 1/2 qt. which surprised me. So remembering back to my Fcar days I needed to wait until the oil drained out of the oil cooler. I went inside and came back about 2-3 minutes later and re-checked the oil. It read full so I am making he assumption that it is. Has this been observed by others with the 5.0L SC motor.

From the owners manual:
To view the current oil
level, allow 5 minutes
after stopping the engine (to allow the oil level
to stabilize), then press the
TRIP
button on the
end of the left column stalk repeatedly, until the
oil can icon is displayed at the bottom of the
message center.

Yep , saw that . Unfortunately there is no +/- time . Interesting decision by Jag but by taking the addition time I took time away from opening the wine.

On several occasions I have attempted to check the oil level since I got my car a couple of months ago, and each time the display tells me that it is not available yet. I have to wait at least 20 minutes to get a reading. So, I'm wondering how you got a reading that you were low and then a corrected level if it doesn't allow a reading until all of the oil has returned. Wouldn't a flippin' dipstick have been easier?

For someone who knows what a dipstick is, and what to do with it, yes. However, they appear to be a dying breed.
Bet you even though it shows to you as "unavailable", should the engine run for a period with low oil, it is recorded for warranty "administration" purposes.
