Default Wet carpet, driver's side "back seat" footwell - source?

Hi All - I am looking for some guidance.....

I was vacuuming out my car, and observed that the carpet behind the driver seat, specifically around the bolt that holds the driver's side seat "rail", the side closest to the driver's door is wet. The plastic cover came off and the hardware is rather rusty, so I am thinking this has been going on for awhile. Its a 2007 XK, been a great car overall, and has had its AC condensate duckbill issue resolved a couple of years ago (but of course that is the passenger front footwell issue..so I am thinking or hoping it is not related.)

I dried it out, and then drove it during a light rain with wet roads, and it was wet again. I jacked the car up and inspected under it but observed no obvious issues. The bottom exterior looks pretty pristine. Wheel well "liners' look intact so I am thinking the driver's side rear wheel is not throwing water up and somehow getting into the cabin. Again, can't see how it would get in from underneath from the front either, as it looks all intact under the car.

Any ideas appreciated.

Best,
Reg

Quarter glass leak? If you’re confident to remove the seat and then the carpet tub would be easier to watch for water or remove the left side interior quarter panel.

There are around six videos in this series where Andy finds, and then cures, his rear footwell leak. I've no idea why his XK should develop such a leak but maybe it's a potential weakness in the model.

Can’t watch the above video where I am, but there was another thread on the topic, with pictures of where water was coming in.
Try searching for it.

Hello Richard S and kj07XK -

Thanks for the insight and video, I really appreciate it. This is "exactly" the same issue I am having, although I have a left hand drive car for US market, the leak issue is exactly the same. I will have to find his part 2 videos, its just really strange...thanks again.

Hello all - just a follow up question, is it particularly hard to remove the seat, the threshold panels and carpet to get to the potentially leaking seam sealer sections?

thanks,
Reg

No, it's quite easy just 4 bolts and electrics harnesses underneath. Remove the front two first, then move the seat forward and undo the two rears.
