The bottom line, and this is covered extensively is that Jag tech can't keep up with phone tech. The bluetooth module may need an update to it's firmware. Cambo is a moderator on this site and can do this for you. Note, he's in Australia so turnaround takes time but if your phone's not working anyway, what's the difference?
Alternatively you can hold out for a newer module on eBay. Both options are cheaper than buying new phones. Give this a read:

Very helpful, thanks.
does the phone pairing process time out before it can pair? If so, set your timeout setting on your touchscreen for a longer period.

Your login name is 2011XK but you appear to be asking about a 2008. Assuming it is really a 2008 then I have never had any issues with any of my iPhones with my '07 XKR in the 5 years that I have owned it.
My current phone is an 8 Plus running IOS 11 and that works fine. If you have any issues docking then, as Sean said, turn off the touch screen timeout.
The early cars didn't play well with Android phones. I only tried one and although it paired OK, the phone book text was garbage. A later module or firmware update should sort that though.

Fit watch interference. interesting
In my truck (2017 Silverado) the automatic blue tooth between my Garmin fit watch and my current phone (LG 4) interferes with connection to the truck. But in my 2008 XK I have experimented with leaving the fit watch at home, but while the vehicle recognizes the phone, and I have the time out turned off in the XK, it will not pair. Several attempts. Never paired. So I am debating between this being a blue tooth module problem in the XK (but I wouldn't expect it to recognize the phone then), or just an incompatability. My phone is around 4 years old, and could use a replacement at this point anyway, so I figured I would find out what pairs the best with the XK for most of you, and try that before moving on to the module. In related good news, for some reason my Tire monitoring system fault/failure warning, has stopped coming up during the last several drives. I attribute this to the car being on the CTEK 3300 whenever I'm not in it and driving it. i think the last owner lost interest and the battery probably was allowed to die a few times. Some of the kinks are getting worked out (I hope ).
