The units I received from Amazon look quite similar.
This is the output from one side.

I had to shim the light by 1/8 because the projection was hitting the door panel edge cutting off the top of the kitty cat.

Just replaced passenger side rear rotor and brake pads. Wired brushed surface rust on frame and sprayed with Rust-Oleum .

Just need to figure how to release pad pressure on the E-brake mechanism as the pads are tight against the new rotor/thickness - enuff for today - just started to rain on my outdoor workshop.

Default Exhaust Mod

Decided that my Kitty didn’t have enough growl in her so I deleted the resonator and muffler box, added and X-Pipe, straight pipes all the way after and now she’s the got the chops of a sports coupe. The best thing is that it doesn’t sound cheap or ghetto and it didn’t break the bank. FTW!!

Default Sometimes it's the little things...

After my recording session I was able to rush out to the car this evening and replace the worn out wheel centres. The old ones just came out with my fingers they were so loose.

At the weekend, I replaced the R badge on the boot lid, and replaced all the missing scrivets and turnbuckles in the engine bay.

Little things please little minds, my mother used to say...

My 2009 XK duckbill reared its ugly head last week. I had been able to reach it and massage it into submission about 2 years ago, no issues until my wife and I went out to celebrate our 49th anniversary and her feet got wet on the way to the restaurant. I tried to fix it myself with no luck…at my advanced age I don’t have the flexibility to get in there and reach it. My Indy took pity on me and got it done. He tried to reach it with no success, but was able to lower the transmission enough to cut it off…it took him 2 hours but he only charged me for 1 hour…I’ve been a regular there since 1986…Dougherty Automotive in West Chester, PA.

Changed the oil and filter!
I timed myself, from grabbing the key to everything cleaned and put away...
Sixteen minutes, forty seconds.
I was wearing clean(ish) clothes and one of my fancy watches.
The dirtiest part was wiping out the used funnel.

I am envious of you 5 liter guys! Jacking the car up, crawling under to remove the sump drain plug, dropping the plug into the used oil pan, and wearing at least a cup of the stuff is getting old.
On the plus side, that dip stick is reassuring👍

That’s seriously fast! I’ve done 30+ of these. Haven’t timed myself but typically just over 30 minutes elapse when I actually check. Setup all tools and materials, remove oil, change filter, refill oil, empty old oil, check level/top off, cleanup and put everything away.

Whoa, we’re all green with envy. Ah, but did you include that infamous 5.0 maintenance reset song and dance?

Not yet. That'll happen next time I drive. I have a paper in the console with the steps, I usually get it on the second try though.

Default The tired XKR's first MOT

Today I took the car for its first MOT in my ownership. The mileage was 119,001. I haven't been to this particular MOT place before, and this guy was thorough. I'd also never seen the type of lift he was using before. This one has built-in hydraulics that violently (and loudly!) shoves the front or rear of the car from side to side repeatedly while the inspector is underneath it. I was only able to watch from a distance - they're more concerned about liability than other places I've been to where I have been able to stand under the car myself.

Anyway, the only advisory on the ticket was for a loose mid exhaust heat shield. I knew that was coming; more about that in another thread. However, I did say the guy was thorough, and he had lots of advice for me:

Emissions were right on the money. Brakes (including park brake) were right on the money. All the small stuff like headlamps, seatbelts, exhaust blah blah blah were "perfect".

The front lower control (banana) arms will need replacing sometime. Not surprising really. He said the movement was barely noticeable but definitely there. But he'd already mentioned this when he did the 4 wheel alignment for me a few weeks ago so this wasn't news.

There's something going on with the left rear suspension. So small he couldn't work out what it was, even after getting a colleague to go over it with him in case he was imagining it - but there's a tiny bit of movement somewhere.

There is surface rust on the subframes (surprise surprise). Nothing to worry about now, he said, but I should get it brushed off and the subframes waxoyled. I wonder how much that is going to cost me.

Feeling pretty smug about my car, I walked round to the petrol station next door to the MOT place to buy a coffee and there in front of me was a 2014 reg. XKR Dynamic convertible in Ultimate Black that looked like it had just come off the showroom floor. Brought me down a peg or two...

It worked on the first attempt! It never did go away from 'RESETTING MAINT' or whatever, I just released it after 30 seconds and all was well.

Bleed the brakes on the Jag and fine tuning the coilovers on the MX5.
