That was a close call. I thought your touchscreen had PTSD!

Took the XKR to the emissions testing station, everything passed fine. I got back into the car and totally Black Touch Screen. Shut off engine, closed doors, locked and unlocked car and tried again. Black Touch Screen! DAMMIT!!!

Well, I got home and kept thinking "Battery. Battery. Battery." like I should think. I hooked up the charger.... "FULL BATTERY".
YAY!!!! <---sarcasm, should be 'dammit again'. (had just got back from a 100 mile round-trip, so actually no surprise)

Did a hard reset, and waddayano..... All is well in Jag Country.

I've had this happen two or thee times. I've fixed it so far by locking the car and leaving it to stand for a while and then trying again and, bingo, back to normal. In the even that doesn't work one time, what is a 'hard reset', Cee Jay? Would be useful info to have up my sleeve, considering the car is so compromised if the screen is out.

How to do it, what it does, and why.

^^^^^^
Many thanks, Stuart.

The instruction says to disconnect the negative and touch it to the *still connected* positive. If you connect the neg and pos terminals to one pole of the battery at the same time, doesn't this cause a short circuit? I am not questioning the advice - just seeking clarification over something I would have normally been careful to avoid doing. (As you can tell, my tech knowledge is 'limited' ). Thanks.

EDIT: I didn't initially spot the link you kindly added. Read that thread now and I *think* I see where I was getting it wrong. The advice is NOT to connect the neg and pos terminals of the battery together, but to connect the neg and positive terminals *to each other*. Subtle, but important difference. Thanks again.

In our cars, due to the configuration of the battery and most importantly the clamps, it is MUCH easier to disconnect the POSITIVE battery cable/clamp and touch it to the Negative clamp. It just reaches much easier.
The only settings I lose are for the windows.

I did very little to my XKR today besides putting the passenger side piece of my front splitter back on after scraping it pretty good last week. But more exciting was I got my '68 Goat back from restoration after several years and can now stare at it in my driveway. This has been my dream car since high school 52 years ago. Rides like a Cadillac limousine, but boy does it look sexy. Just look at that hood!

Chasing a pinhole leak in a 'no seeum' hose led me to this. Of course the other end of that hose runs under the supercharger. 🤨 More fun to come.

For the low, low price of $360 I got me a whole new thermostat and what seems like a few barrels of brand-spanking new coolant!

Marty,
Did you realize that you posted this in the X150 Forum, for 2007-2015 XK/XKR models? Your Public Profile and signature show that you have a 2002 XKR, which is an earlier X100 model. You'll have more interest if you repost this in the X100 Forum.

Today installed x pipe. What an upgrade! Better sound, no more american v8 rattling (previously had mid resonator delete), sound is more crispier, more moderate, more appropriate. On the other hand, car feels like it gained at least 20hp, has power all through the torque range, doesn't feel like it "exhaled" on higher rpms. Must do!

I would post the videos as well, but they are in mp4 on my phone.

Continued with disassembly for my valley hose replacement. Getting the intake elbow off is a royal PITA. Thankfully I'm down to the final 3 bolts. I just need someone with big guns to help lift the SC out.

Nice one SBS
I also have a 07 and had cambo retrofit the later model touch screen, it really modernized the vehicle that plus elimination of the TPMS I would put down as essential 😁😁

Steering a lot more firmer with the xkrs rack in place

Fitted up the rear seating from the dynamic xkr , have cambo rigging up a new harness for the fronts

Did you take this opportunity to get a weight difference between the originals and the new ones prior to fitting? Did you have a look at Schroth harnesses as I've in mine?

Yet to weigh to dynamic seats can do that once the electrical harness are made up, however they do feel a solid 10lbs heavier (at least) compared to the standard xk front seats .

Won't be running any seat belt harnesses at this stage
