The top pic is of the 2007-2009 XKR. The side vents are separate pieces that clip into the bumper and also house the fog lamps. The bottom pic is the 2010-2011 and what you see is a black wrap (I know this for one thing because I know the car).

thanks all !
The side vents look really nice. I'd consider getting those along with a nice black Mina upper/lower to clean up the front, even though it's not an XKR , the vents are a nice subtle touch.
The black wrap on that color also is a nice touch... But now I also have the Wilford image ingrained - lol

Yep, early X150 XKR nose uses the inserts. They feel like an after thought. The fog lamps are too small visually and the grill material is surface mounted instead of recessed like the others. Within an inch behind the grills are the air filters but they serve no function as made. I feel that at one point of the design that they wanted to use them as air inlets but the idea got canned as a warranty flood risk. The grill / fog light modules just clip into place on the XKR nose. Personally I like the XK nose better with the more elegant fog light housings.
I'm torn by the design. I really want to redo the grill so it's recessed and ties to the air filters, add some canards like the XKR-S GT (in white above) and do an honest wing on the back, all out of aluminum since mine's a '07 and not a '14-ish when carbon was more fashionable. I've gone so far as looking at woven stainless and aluminum mesh for the grills but this is long term stuff.
